Asset Optimisation Manager

Severn Trent isn’t all water and wastewater in the Midlands. Severn Trent Services (STS) is a thriving non-regulated business providing outstanding services in the Utilities sector across the UK. We have an ambitious growth plan and are exploring a wealth of exciting strategic opportunities to cement our place as one of the sector leaders.

If you want to do more, and come on this journey, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We’re looking for an experienced Asset Optimisation Manager to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our water and wastewater assets are efficient, compliant and delivering for our customers.

This is a great opportunity to shape investment decisions, drive performance improvements and influence how we manage and maintain critical infrastructure across the business.

This role is based in Reading

LETS TELL YOU MORE

In this role, you’ll be responsible for identifying and prioritising capital investment across our asset base to ensure we continue to meet contractual, environmental and regulatory requirements. You’ll develop and maintain asset survey programmes, assess and recommend investment solutions, and ensure we strike the right balance between cost, efficiency and long-term performance.

You’ll work closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to provide technically sound, costed solutions, supporting both operational performance and future growth. You’ll also play a key role in identifying opportunities to reduce operational expenditure, improve efficiency and promote “spend to save” initiatives that deliver long-term value.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Identify and prioritise capital investment requirements to meet contractual obligations and deliver reliable water and wastewater services.
  • Develop and maintain an asset survey programme to inform investment decisions.
  • Assess and recommend capital investment solutions that ensure efficient use of funds, compliance with regulatory standards, and operational safety.
  • Balance investment requirements within financial frameworks and contractual commitments.
  • Maintain effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate information for investment decisions.
  • Communicate technical solutions and costed recommendations to customers.
  • Collaborate with in-house teams and external suppliers to deliver capital projects.
  • Identify opportunities for upskilling and extending in-house delivery capabilities.
  • Drive initiatives to minimise operational expenditure (e.g., chemical and power usage, asset visit frequency).
  • Promote “Spend to Save” opportunities where upfront investment reduces long-term costs.
  • Act as a technical focal point for customer challenges and propose tailored solutions.
  • Support commercial teams with costed recommendations for new opportunities.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To be successful, you’ll have strong experience in asset management, optimisation or capital investment planning within a utilities, water or wastewater environment. You’ll be confident managing complex projects and balancing technical, regulatory and financial considerations.

You’ll be highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience working with asset management systems, telemetry or remote monitoring tools would be beneficial, along with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage supply chain relationships.

If you have any of the following, it would be advantageous: a degree in Engineering, Asset Management or a related technical discipline, professional accreditation such as IAM, ICE or CIWEM, and knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, with NEBOSH or an equivalent qualification preferred.

This role requires a full UK driving licence and the flexibility to work a nine‑day fortnight when required.
