Who it's for:
Young people aged 14–18 who are interested in gaining hands-on experience of the world of work and exploring future career opportunities.
This placement is ideal for those who are curious, willing to learn, and keen to build confidence in a professional environment. Whether you already have a career in mind or are still exploring your options, this is a great opportunity to try something new, develop key skills, and get a real insight into how teams work day to day.
No previous experience is needed—just a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved!
What’s This All About?
This placement gives you the chance to experience the day-to-day work of our operational teams and see how we keep essential services running for our communities.
You’ll have the opportunity to shadow a site operator at a sewage treatment works, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at how we treat wastewater and protect the environment. You’ll learn how different processes work together to keep everything running safely, efficiently, and in line with strict environmental standards.
This is a hands-on and practical experience where you’ll observe real operations, understand how issues are identified and resolved, and see the important role these sites play in everyday life. You’ll also gain insight into how teams work together to monitor performance, carry out maintenance, and ensure everything is operating as it should.
Throughout your placement, you’ll build your understanding of health and safety on site, how large-scale processes are managed, and the skills needed to work in an operational environment.
By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of what it’s like to work in operations and the impact this work has on keeping water clean and communities safe.
