Our Tactical Asset Planning Team are a group of experts dedicated to the assets and customers in our Hafren Dyfrdwy (HD) area. This Asset Management - HD Team has an exciting opportunity to join as our new Upstream Targeting Analyst, at our site in Wrexham.

The Asset Management - HD Team has a clear vision – to be trusted experts and asset class specialists, who leverage the wider expertise of our Chief Engineer department, and provide a focal point for our Hafren Dyfrdwy Operational and Delivery teams. We work collaboratively to balance asset risk and performance across the investment portfolio, whilst understanding the local context of our customers and assets.
This role will proactively improve the leakage reporting methodology and targeting capability across our upstream network of trunk mains and service reservoirs. This will be achieved through complex data analysis, along with stakeholder engagement, to resolve network anomalies and produce accurate reporting.
You’ll have advanced technical knowledge of water distribution systems which will facilitate mass balance calculations, enabling more informed and effective leakage targeting. You will collaborate with the wider business to resolve issues, improve the quality and quantity of our data monitoring points and advance our understanding of the upstream distribution system.
You will work closely with our Network Optimisation and DMA Leakage Targeting Analysts to improve the accuracy of our systems and identify areas for improvement or investment to refine our upstream targeting and reporting.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Identifying, developing and driving both operational and capital solutions to improve the operation and consistency of Upstream Tiles.
- Identifying investment required to improve the operation and consistency of Upstream Tiles.
- Performing an in-depth tile analysis to investigate the weekly tile discrepancies using a range of analytical techniques.
- Interpreting data trends, discounting anomalies and identifying real losses, and being accountable for monitoring, maintaining and interpreting the trunk main logger fleet and targeting the response.
- Collaborating with and influencing the wider business and consultants in order to develop our understanding of Smart Network coverage on the upstream network.
- Providing technical reports and analysis using appropriate tools such as Netbase and hydraulic models and assisting with year-end reporting.
- Interpreting complex and varied data to establish an in depth understanding of the HD upstream network - to identify operational, network or system issues and manage them through to resolution.
- Identifying and prioritising areas to undertake effective proactive leakage detection activities – and providing the field teams with network information that will provide operational insight.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
Ideally you will have direct experience in leakage targeting, or the application of hydraulic principles and hydraulic modelling. You will combine great numeric/ analytical skills with the ability to analyse and problem solve complex issues.
We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with the ability to prioritise workloads and deliver against targets. You’ll have great IT skills, working with spreadsheets, presenting graphical data and using our systems to extract and analyse data, including GISST, SAP and Netbase. The ability to communicate complex issues to appropriate audience, in writing or verbally, will also be important.
A degree in a STEM subject is desirable, as is membership of a professional body (or working towards).
As travel is required, it is also expected you will hold a full UK driving licence.
