We are looking for Transport Specialists to play a vital role in keeping Severn Trent moving—safely, legally, and efficiently. Working closely with Network Construction teams and our wider Fleet function, you’ll make sure our mains renewal fleet is fully compliant, roadworthy, and supporting the delivery of essential work across the region.
You’ll be accountable for meeting all Operator Licence (O‑Licence) requirements, overseeing legal compliance, and driving continuous improvements that create a safe, cost‑effective, and high‑performing transport operation. This role involves regular travel between two dedicated depots and wider engagement across the Severn Trent region.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our Network Construction fleet meets all legal, safety, and operational requirements. This includes compliance with DVSA regulations, Working Time Directive, and Domestic GB Drivers’ Hours rules.
You’ll act as the dedicated transport point of contact for two/three Network Construction teams, working alongside the wider Fleet team to maintain high standards, improve utilisation, and deliver value for money—without ever compromising on safety.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
You’ll bring strong fleet expertise, credibility, and the confidence to influence others to do the right thing—especially when it comes to safety and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the dedicated Transport Manager for two/three Network Construction & Logistic teams, ensuring full compliance with H&S, O‑Licence, and legal requirements
- Auditing network construction and logistics operations to ensure HGV checks, licences, and records are completed accurately and on time
- Being named on the Company’s Operating Licence (when required) and managing all associated obligations
- Ensuring all fleet vehicles are maintained to a high standard in line with DVSA legislation and guidance
- Monitoring and managing drivers’ hours and working time compliance (WTD and Domestic GB rules)
- Investigating and reporting incidents in line with agreed timescales and formats
- Driving continuous improvement in fleet efficiency, utilisation, and total cost of ownership
- Managing key fleet processes such as monthly reporting, accident management, driver compliance, fuel spend, and vehicle access (fobbing)
- Building strong working relationships with drivers, managers, and third‑party suppliers to embed compliance and achieve savings
To succeed, you’ll need:
- Certificate of Professional Competence (Transport Manager CPC) – essential
- Strong, practical knowledge of UK transport legislation and O‑Licence requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with drivers and senior stakeholders
- Experience working with Microsoft Office and SAP
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
- Experience influencing change and implementing new processes
- A collaborative approach and experience working within multi‑disciplinary teams
Qualifications:
- Transport Manager CPC – Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence – Essential (travel between two/three depots required)
