Senior Cyber Automation Engineer

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

 

This role Senior Automation Cyber, aims to ensure CNI sites adhere to OT security standards, enhance NIS-R CAF submission, and promote collaboration between Automation and site operation teams. It involves monitoring security tools, participating in change management, engaging in cyber forums, and collaborating across functions to define OT cyber standards aligned with the IT strategy.

 

 

 

Other main key accountabilities will include:

 

  • Develop security configuration standards for all our OT network connected hardware and liaise with Chief Engineer Standards team to publish and police.
  • Ensure that our CNI sites are fully compliant with our NIS-R operational technology standards.
  • Monitor, manage, improve, and exploit the Claroty Threat Detection Platform, daily to produce security improvement action plans and react to alerts.
  • SME for OT Site Hirschmann Networks and designs, ensuring all changes are made using the OT CAB.
  • Assist in the development of OT Cyber Security project scopes and support Technology security team in testing and delivering security projects.
  • Participate in OT security risk assessments of security alerts.
  • Training and support to all STW automation staff with regards to site network infrastructure management and optimisation.
  • Define response and incident management for OT cyber/malicious attack.
  • Test new firmware, security configurations and document.
  • Deliver the improvement activity plans agreed with the Automation Systems Lead (Cyber) to reduce known OT equipment vulnerabilities by focused firmware updates, patching and mitigations across our estate.
  • Promote OT security best practices.
  • Undertake training and certifications as required to support job roll. (Networks, Wireshark, Ethical Hacking, Claroty, hardware vendor specific, Cyber, IEC62443 for example)

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

To excel in this role, you must have proven experience in OT site networking, infrastructure, and industrial protocols, as well as proficiency with Claroty and Wireshark.

 

You should possess extensive security knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, UPSs, and SCADA systems, along with familiarity with NIS-R regulations and UK Water Industry solutions. Essential skills include IT/OT interface experience, fault identification, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of security standards like IEC 62443.

 

Desirable qualifications include familiarity with Ovarro and Rockwell SCADA systems, Hirschmann networks, communication technologies (ADSL, 4G), and understanding water treatment processes.
