You’ll be the go‑to expert for advising on trade effluent discharges, working closely with customers and internal teams to assess applications, manage risks, and ensure everything meets UK regulatory requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE


As a Trade Effluent Technical Specialist, you’ll provide expert technical and regulatory support to help manage trade effluent discharges safely and compliantly. Your work will play a key part in protecting our sewer networks, treatment works and the wider environment, while supporting customers to meet their obligations.

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Provide specialist advice on trade effluent applications and consents in line with UK legislation
  • Assess the impact of discharges on sewer networks and wastewater treatment processes
  • Review sampling and flow data to confirm compliance with consent conditions
  • Support investigations into non‑compliance, pollution incidents and treatment issues
  • Assess complex or higher‑risk trade effluent applications, including new or emerging processes
  • Support the drafting, review and variation of trade effluent consents
  • Carry out first‑level assurance and technical sign‑off

 

Working with others

 

You’ll work closely with internal teams across Operations, Environmental Regulation and Laboratory Services, as well as external customers, regulators and contractors. This includes contributing to meetings, site visits, technical discussions and regulatory responses.

 

Compliance & improvement

 

  • Provide technical input into compliance and enforcement activity
  • Support incident response relating to trade effluent pollution events
  • Help develop and improve technical standards, processes and guidance
  • Keep up to date with legislation, industry best practice and emerging contaminants

  • Strong technical knowledge of trade effluent, wastewater treatment and environmental legislation
  • Experience assessing industrial effluent and interpreting analytical data
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to different audiences
  • A collaborative mindset with strong attention to detail
