At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

Our ambitious and innovative projects (all 5000+ of them) help to combat the challenges of waste and water infrastructure, flooding and water quality. Being part of our inhouse designers means we can do the best by our customers and our water.

Sitting within the Waste Treatment Design Function of the Capital Design and Delivery Department, this role will be accountable for determining the techniques, templates, tools and processes required to establish and improve the departments design standards specifically related to Civil Engineering. This role can be based on any of our capital hubs, Shrewsbury, Derby or Coventry.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Reporting to the Business Lead, this role is responsible for leading Severn Trent Water’s capital investment programme, advancing design capabilities to meet both immediate and long-term business needs. The Senior Design Manager sets the design direction for integrated teams, ensures alignment with project goals, delivers programmes on time and within budget, and upholds quality and regulatory standards. The role also champions innovation, continuous improvement, and fosters strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You will have experience in programme and project management, including detailed judgement, problem solving, and delivery within financial and commercial frameworks.

You will also need proven ability to lead, coach, and build capability in multi-disciplinary teams, especially in solution design. We are also looking for strong communication and influencing skills, both internally and externally, to drive results.

Important is also for you to have comprehensive knowledge of managing commercial aspects of design delivery and ensuring compliance within regulated industries as well as ability to impact on processes, systems, KPIs, and deadlines relevant to the role.  We are looking for experience in design or project management roles, with robust planning and organisational abilities.

Having the right skills and experience matters, but what’s equally important to us is your character, positivity and caring approach. We welcome applicants with backgrounds from other sectors, provided you’re confident working across process, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering disciplines.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involve. Those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?

We do more, because we care.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live.  Here’s some of our favourites:
