EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In this role, you will lead a team within the Operational Control Centre (OCC), influencing key ODI’s (Supply Interruptions, Pollutions, Water Quality & C-MEX). You will manage Controllers, Technicians, and Technical Experts 24/7, making critical decisions on operational control and asset failures. Reporting to the OCC Business Lead, you will collaborate with various teams to ensure optimal outcomes and build stakeholder trust.
Your responsibilities include maintaining customer service for 8 million customers, mitigating fines, and ensuring effective environmental performance through proactive monitoring. You will drive risk assessment for planned activities, emphasizing technical coaching and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will lead incident management up to Operational Bronze level and serve as the Hydraulic workstream lead for higher-level events.
Other accountabilities will include:
• Responsible for timely and effective responses to operational issues on the network.
• Responsible for forecasting future events and ensuring the control centre and field teams have contingencies measures in place for dealing with new incidents / events.
• Responsible for capturing costs and learning during events for post review analysis
• Accountable for line management & development of technical skills within the team
• To make sure every planned intervention meets the required preconditions & is delivered effectively
• Work collaboratively with Water Resources for protecting grid resources through reactive events.
• Working closely to develop and maintain channels between planned R&C activity in line with PH&S department standards and the Operational control centre
• Ensure all risk assessments for your teams are completed and conducted to the required SLA's, quality standard and is visible to all the relevant teams within STW • Accountable for the link between the planned work teams and reactive work team ensure 24/7 support for planned interventions.
• Play an active part in the wider Control Centre improvement plan in conjunction with the wider Control Centre Management Team – Flexing teams and workload between reactive and planned activity when needs must.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
In order to succeed in this role, you should have strong programme management skills to prioritize work and adhere to SLAs and standards. You need to influence all levels within the organization, building a network of key stakeholders. Identifying and acting on risks and opportunities is crucial, as is managing the team flexibly to address these and create business cases when control measures aren’t possible. Effective meeting facilitation, strong leadership in line with the STW model, and the ability to build sustainable development plans for the team are essential. You must also make commercially difficult decisions and link outcomes to broader business needs
