Environment Office Coordinator

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

We’re excited to be hiring two brand new Environment Officer Coordinator roles- a great opportunity to join us at a time of growth and help shape how we manage environmental compliance across our operational sites.

If you’re highly organised, proactive, and not afraid to challenge the status quo, this could be the perfect fit. We’re looking for people who can pick up issues and run with them, working independently to find solutions and keep things moving. You’ll also need to be comfortable heading out to site when needed and working closely with teams across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll be at the centre of our Compliance Assessment Report (CAR) process. You’ll manage the CAR inbox, triage incoming reports, ensure timely responses, and keep our compliance database up to date. You’ll be a key link between the Environment Office and operational teams, helping to make sure everything runs smoothly and that we meet our regulatory obligations.

You’ll also be responsible for tracking and resolving non-compliance issues, making sure they’re documented accurately and dealt with efficiently. Plus, you’ll support colleagues by offering technical advice on compliance and regulation, helping them stay on top of what’s required.

If you're successful, we'll be looking to hold interviews between the 16th and 18th of September- so keep those dates free!

Please note, this role will be based out of Severn Trent Centre in Coventry.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the central point of contact between Senior Environmental Officers, operational teams, and external regulatory bodies to ensure environmental obligations are clearly understood and effectively implemented. Provide regular updates to site managers on outstanding CAR actions and deadlines, and support resolution through follow-up meetings and collaborative engagement.

  • Compliance Assessment Report (CAR) Management: Oversee the CAR inbox, ensuring all incoming reports are reviewed, logged, and assigned promptly. Conduct initial reviews for completeness and clarity, and cross-reference with inspection reports, permit requirements, and historical data to support accurate tracking and trend analysis.

  • Site Support and Technical Guidance: Provide technical advice to operational colleagues on matters of environmental compliance and regulation. Attend site inspections when required to support the identification and resolution of compliance issues.

  • Database and Workflow Oversight: Maintain and update compliance databases to reflect real-time status and progress against action plans. Ensure all entries meet internal reporting and audit standards, and prioritise high-risk or time-sensitive issues appropriately.

  • Reporting and Insights: Produce weekly and monthly reports summarising CAR status, trends, and key issues. Escalate overdue or high-risk cases to senior management and assist in the preparation of regulatory submissions and performance dashboards.

  • Process Improvement and Development: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reporting processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance accuracy. Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and support projects aimed at improving digital tools and systems related to environmental compliance.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too.  We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
