If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Our Tankered Waste (TW) business is expanding rapidly, creating new opportunities to join a collaborative team delivering fast, reliable, and professional services to our domestic liquid waste customers. This role offers the chance to work closely with colleagues across Wastewater Recycling and Bioresources in a dynamic and supportive environment.
As a TW Compliance Technician, you’ll ensure that imported tankered domestic liquid waste is suitable for acceptance and treatment, maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal standards. You’ll support the growth of the TDW business by providing waste acceptance and control services, sampling tankers, reviewing analysis results, and scheduling site visits based on risk.
You’ll help safeguard site compliance and operational integrity, ensuring adherence to environmental permits and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The role involves travel across the Severn Trent Water (STW) region to ensure robust controls are in place and regulatory requirements are met.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
As a TW Compliance Technician, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that tankered domestic waste (TDW) loads arriving at our sewage treatment works meet all regulatory and internal standards. This includes carrying out sampling of both liquid waste and sludge cake received from other water and sewerage companies at our Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP) sites. You’ll be responsible for sending samples for analysis, reviewing the results, and taking appropriate action when non-conformances are identified.
You’ll also co-ordinate and carry out site visits across the Severn Trent Water region, using a risk-based approach to ensure compliance and protect operational performance. This includes managing the acceptance of festival waste and ensuring that all waste loads are accepted or rejected in line with established procedures. You’ll work closely with site teams to organise contractor visits and ensure all necessary documentation and processes are in place.
In addition to your fieldwork, you’ll compile and maintain accurate records, produce reports, and support the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs). You’ll collaborate with both the Commercial team and operational staff to ensure smooth communication and coordination, and you’ll assist with any on-site investigations related to performance or compliance. Attendance at meetings and providing support across various STW locations will also be part of your role.
To succeed in this role, experience in the water or waste industry would be beneficial, though full training will be provided. A good understanding of wastewater processes and previous experience with sampling or interpreting laboratory reports would be advantageous. Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, are important, as is the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders such as tanker drivers or contractors.
Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
