Water Treatment Scientist

Hello, we’re Severn Trent and we think water is wonderful. Oh, we’re pretty keen on people too.

24 hours a day, 365 days a year we serve 4.8 million households and business across the heart of the UK. Each cuppa drank and every toilet flushed is only possible because of the 6,500 brilliant team members working across our patch.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities where they live.

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As a Water Treatment Scientist, you’ll act as a key member of the Water Treatment Process team, providing day to day technical advice to a number of our largest and most critical surface water treatment works. You’ll be looking after process issues at your works of accountability, and will also monitor process performance via reviews of works trends, thus ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers.

The role will be based out of our Tittesworth Water Treatment Works and supporting our operational sites across the South Cheshire region. As you’ll be travelling between sites the role comes with a car allowance and you’ll also be part of an out of hours standby cover rota.

Sound like you? Then read on.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

As a Water Treatment Scientist, you’ll be reviewing performance of our Water Treatment Works, participating in water quality improvement initiatives, while identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy).

You’ll have the opportunity to define the future of our water treatment works by working closely alongside the Process Design Engineers, helping to define new capital projects to further improve performance and reduce operational risk.

Whilst leading investigations into water quality issues and failures at Surface Water Works, in order to identify the root cause, you’ll look to identify the mitigating actions for all relevant stakeholders, and be responsible for producing key reports and recommendations.

A key aspect of the role is supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks, by the completion of the water treatment element of Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP) audits, subsequent DWSP actions and identification of the capital and operational investment needs required to improve water quality performance.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has excellent technical knowledge on water treatment processes and issues and the ability to bring solutions to life. Due to the nature of the role we are looking for someone with excellent communication and influencing skills, as you will be dealing with stakeholders at various levels both internally and externally.

This role sits in a busy and diverse team so your ability to prioritise, plan and deliver outputs to strict timescales will be essential, as will the ability to understand both operational and customer issues. Having comprehensive IT skills across various platforms (eg Word, Excel, SAP, Cognos, QUIS, ESCADA) will stand you in good stead along with the ability to interpret trends and understand consequences. If you have the ability to demonstrate recent experience of commissioning, plant optimisation and providing process support this will help you.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
