EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Drive Renewable Energy Performance in a Sector-Leading Team

In Bioresources, our purpose is to create value for the business and our customers by delivering the lowest cost to treat sewage bioresources. We’re proud to lead the way in renewable energy generation, and we’re now looking for a CHP Programme Manager (also known as Renewable Energy Project Specialist) to help us maintain and enhance our Combined Heat and Power (CHP) fleet. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting our renewable energy goals and ensuring our assets continue to perform at the highest level.

About the Role

As CHP Programme Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the capital maintenance programme across our CHP fleet. Your focus will be on ensuring high asset availability and reliability, enabling us to maximise renewable energy output. You’ll oversee contractor activity, both in preparation and during site works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

You’ll work closely with site operational teams to minimise disruption during major overhauls and engine replacements. From obtaining quotations and managing budgets to commissioning and snagging, you’ll ensure every project is completed to the highest standards. You’ll also handle project completion activities, including capitalisation, handover to operations, and full documentation.

Collaboration and Reporting

This role involves regular reporting to the Bioresources leadership board, providing updates on programme progress and performance. You’ll also be expected to develop innovative solutions to support increased biogas production and adopt improved technologies that enhance our renewable energy capabilities.

If you're passionate about renewable energy and want to play a key role in maintaining high-performing assets that support our sustainability goals, we’d love to hear from you. Join us in driving innovation and excellence across our Bioresources team—apply today and help shape the future of energy at Severn Trent.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

As a CHP Programme Engineer, you’ll be a technical specialist responsible for delivering complex construction projects on operational sites. We’re looking for someone with a solid engineering background—ideally in Electrical or Mechanical engineering—though we’re open to candidates who have worked on a variety of asset types beyond Bio. You’ll lead the delivery of new energy projects, ensuring they meet time, cost, and quality targets, all while maintaining a strong focus on safety and wellbeing.

You’ll manage multiple stakeholders, including contractors, regulators, and site teams, to ensure smooth coordination and minimal disruption to operations. Your responsibilities will include overseeing health and safety through CDM regulations, managing hot works and lifting operations, and contributing to HAZOP processes where needed.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll identify and implement technical solutions during capital works, develop programmes in collaboration with operational and construction teams, and ensure accurate recording of time and costs. Working closely with contractors and internal teams, you’ll support the delivery of high-quality projects and liaise with commercial functions to ensure successful execution of maintenance service contracts.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a strong engineering or technical background in Bioresources energy assets, with at least five years’ experience in the wastewater or anaerobic digestion (AD) industry. Qualifications such as IOSH and experience managing contractors under CDM guidance are essential. You should be confident managing complex capital projects, working with regulators and third-party providers, and communicating technical issues clearly across all levels of the business.
