WHY IS THIS ROLE DIFFERENT
This isn’t a traditional procurement role.
As a Quantity Surveyor at Severn Trent, you’ll combine your commercial skills with project delivery, giving you the opportunity to:
- Move beyond transactional procurement into end-to-end commercial involvement
- Work closely with project managers, engineers and delivery partners
- See the real-world impact of your decisions on live infrastructure projects
- Develop expertise in NEC contracts, cost management and project commercial practices, with full support and training
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial delivery of projects across their full lifecycle, from early procurement through to final account.
You’ll work under the guidance of a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager, building your capability while taking responsibility for key commercial activities.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Supporting the commercial management of low to medium complexity projects and work packages
- Contributing to procurement strategies, sourcing decisions and tender processes
- Engaging with suppliers and supporting negotiations and commercial discussions
- Reviewing and challenging supplier costs and proposals
- Supporting contract management and ensuring obligations are delivered
- Managing commercial data, payments and reporting processes
- Identifying risks and supporting their management and mitigation
- Building strong relationships across project teams and supply chain
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds and particularly welcome those from Procurement and Commercial roles.
You might come from:
- Procurement or Category Management
- Strategic sourcing or supplier management
- Commercial or contract management
- Early career quantity surveying or cost management
Experience:
- Experience managing suppliers, contracts, or commercial processes
- Experience supporting tenders, negotiations, or sourcing strategies
- Ability to influence stakeholders and challenge constructively
- Exposure to construction or NEC contracts is helpful but not essential
Skills and approach:
- Commercially curious with a focus on value and efficiency
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident communicator and collaborator
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn
- Strong attention to detail and organisation
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified or equivalent experience
- CIPS, RICS or similar professional membership desirable
