If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
We’re Severn Trent, one of the UK’s biggest water companies and part of the FTSE 100. We look after customers across the Midlands and North Wales through our two water businesses—Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy. What makes our work unique is that we operate within a regulated framework, with price controls set every five years by Ofwat, our industry regulator. We’ve just wrapped up the latest review (PR24), and now we’re gearing up for the next one—PR29.
It’s a really exciting time to join us as an Economic Regulation Analyst. We’re coming off the back of a fantastic result—our business plan was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofwat, which only one other company achieved. We’ve also secured significant growth and continue to lead the industry in performance.
Right now, we’re focused on shaping the future—working with Ofwat to influence how the next review is structured, making sure it delivers real value for our customers and the environment. So if you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a team that’s driving change, this is a great moment to get involved.
What this role is all about:
- I’m here to help shape where water sector regulation is heading—especially now, with big reviews like Cunliffe wrapping up and PR29 on the horizon. It’s a great time to influence the future.
- A big part of my role is making regulatory stuff feel less daunting. I want to help colleagues across the business feel more confident with things like incentives, frameworks, and how it all fits together—tailored to what each team needs.
- I also support teams in building strong, regulator-ready business cases—especially for major investments. That means helping to clearly explain risks, uncertainty, and why the investment matters, all backed by solid evidence and a clear value story.
- I get involved in reviewing and improving business cases too—making sure they’re consistent, compelling, and aligned with what regulators expect.
- I work closely with other teams to make sure our analysis and engagement are grounded in accurate data—both from our own history and across the wider industry.
- And finally, I get to dive into some of the hot topics in regulation, offering analysis and insights that support the wider strategy and leadership team.
You'll be based at our Severn Trent Centre in Coventry. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week. We are a very supportive team and help each other out during busy periods. As you learn your role you’ll be supported by experienced colleagues and welcomed into the team.
HOW WE WORK
WFH flexibility available: You'll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why, we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. So, you'll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported, when you need it.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
This role is all about helping the business navigate the regulatory landscape with confidence and clarity. You’ll be the go-to person for making sense of complex regulatory guidance and sharing it in a way that’s useful—both internally and with external stakeholders. Whether it’s contributing to PR29 submissions or shaping business cases, your input helps ensure our plans are well-evidenced, cost-justified, and stand up to scrutiny.
You’ll work closely with teams across engineering, finance, and regulation to make sure our cost data is consistent and our commitments are clearly understood. It’s a collaborative role where you’ll help bring together different perspectives to build strong, coherent submissions.
You’ll also support the wider business in understanding how delivery planning and incentives work, and what they mean for us. And when it comes to regulatory data, you’ll turn it into insights that help decision-makers see the bigger picture.
What You’ll Bring
To thrive in this role, you’ll need a good grasp of how regulation works—ideally in the water industry or something similar. You’re analytical, a clear communicator, and comfortable working to tight deadlines. You know how to make complex ideas easy to understand, whether you're talking to experts or non-specialists.
You’re also great at building relationships and working with others to find solutions, even when time is tight. And you live our values—Curiosity, Courage, Care, and Pride—in everything you do.
Bonus points if you’ve worked in a regulated sector before, built business cases, or have some knowledge of water/wastewater engineering or economics. Understanding our assets and how they change over time and geography is also a plus.
Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too.
