WHY IS THIS ROLE DIFFERENT
This is more than just an entry-level position.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor at Severn Trent, you’ll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while working alongside experienced commercial professionals, project managers and designers.
In this role you will:
- Build experience across both procurement and project delivery
- Work closely with internal teams and supply chain partners
- Develop your skills in contract management, cost management and commercial processes
- Receive structured support and opportunities to work towards professional qualifications
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial delivery of projects and contracts, building your confidence and capability across a range of activities.
You’ll work under the guidance of a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager, developing your capability to manage projects independently while taking responsibility for key commercial activities.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Supporting the commercial management of low complexity projects and contracts
- Assisting with drafting and administering contracts and work orders
- Supporting the assessment of applications for payment and contract events
- Helping manage contract communications and notifications
- Supporting sourcing activities and preparation for negotiations
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring compliance with processes
- Working with stakeholders across design, delivery and supply chain teams
- Contributing to the resolution of commercial and contractual queries
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re looking for people with the right attitude and potential who are keen to develop a career in commercial and project delivery.
You might come from:
- A construction or engineering background
- A commercial or procurement role
- An apprenticeship or graduate pathway
- Or be looking to transition into the sector with transferable skills
Experience:
- Some exposure to commercial, procurement or project environments
- An understanding of construction or contracts is helpful but not essential
- A willingness to learn and develop
Skills and approach:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills
- A proactive and positive approach
- Curiosity and willingness to learn
- A genuine interest in delivering value and improving outcomes
Qualifications:
- Working towards or interested in a relevant qualification such as RICS, CIPS or similar
- Degree or equivalent experience desirable
