At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As Team Manager for our Shropshire patch, you’ll lead a passionate, high‑performing team at the heart of our Bioresources operations. Your area of responsibility covers sludge treatment, renewable energy generation, and the production of high‑quality biosolids—work that plays a vital role in protecting the environment and supporting Severn Trent’s journey to net zero.

You’ll have end‑to‑end ownership of site performance, safety, compliance, and, most importantly, your people. By creating a positive, inclusive culture and focusing on great leadership, you’ll enable your teams to perform at their best while delivering real environmental and operational impact.

A key part of the role is overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of sludge treatment assets, maximising green energy production through biomethane and electricity generation. You’ll also ensure biosolids are produced to the highest quality standards, fully compliant with the Biosolids Assurance Scheme and Farming Rules for Water, helping us maintain strong and trusted relationships with the agricultural community.

This is a role for a confident, forward‑thinking leader who enjoys balancing strategy with hands‑on operational delivery. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Bioresources and Wastewater Recycling to drive compliance, continuous improvement, and excellent regulatory outcomes.

You’ll be responsible for the following sites:

  • Barnhurst
  • Monkmoor
  • Rushmoor
  • Coalport

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high‑performing team to deliver against Bioresources and Severn Trent KPIs, regulatory requirements, and company values.
  • Take ownership of asset health and operational performance, driving reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement across your sites.
  • Champion health, safety, and wellbeing, ensuring strong compliance, high standards, and genuine cultural ownership.
  • Make and deliver commercial and strategic operational decisions, including investment planning through the STORM risk portfolio and right‑first‑time capital delivery.
  • Ensure regulatory and assurance excellence by conducting checks, hosting audits, maintaining compliant SOPs/LOPs, and ensuring Waterpedia standards are met.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, resolving customer complaints fairly and professionally.
  • Manage financial controls, oversee contractor activity, issue permits for high‑risk work, and lead effective communication through comm cells and team meetings using the SBF toolkit.

Capabilities & Behaviours

  • Accountable, resilient, and performance‑focused, with a proactive and solutions‑driven mindset.
  • A people‑centric leader who coaches, mentors, and develops others to succeed.
  • Confident communicator, able to adapt your approach to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Analytical and observant, with the ability to identify performance gaps and balance risk and reward.
  • Organised, flexible, and open to feedback, using setbacks as opportunities for growth and improvement.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience within an operational or technical environment, ideally within wastewater or sludge treatment.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety, contractor management, and working in high‑risk settings.
  • Technically capable with a solid maintenance or engineering background and good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • IOSH Managing Health & Safety qualification and a scientific, process, or engineering qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, due to travel requirements.
