Senior Commissioning Engineer

We have a clear roadmap to drive performance across our business while supporting the UK’s net zero ambitions. With industry-leading sustainability commitments and a strong focus on innovation, we’re investing heavily in our assets and infrastructure.

We’re now looking for a Senior Commissioning Engineer to play a key role in delivering our capital programme across water and wastewater projects.

Everything you need to know

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer within our Capital Delivery team, you’ll lead commissioning activities across a portfolio of MEICA projects, ensuring assets are safely and effectively brought into service.

You’ll take ownership of commissioning strategy from design through to handover, working closely with delivery teams, contractors and operational stakeholders. This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll provide technical leadership while driving best practice and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of commissioning strategies and methodologies
  • Overseeing commissioning activities across water and wastewater treatment sites
  • Managing commissioning phases including FAT, SAT, and site acceptance testing
  • Supporting design reviews, HAZOPs and risk assessments
  • Defining and agreeing testing criteria and performance validation
  • Driving safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with industry regulations
  • Leading project handover, including training and documentation for operations teams
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the commissioning team

This role offers a high level of autonomy, with the opportunity to shape processes, influence delivery standards, and introduce new ideas as we continue to innovate across our asset base.

What you’ll bring to the role

You’ll bring significant experience in commissioning within a regulated engineering environment, along with strong technical and stakeholder management capability.

We’re looking for:

  • Strong commissioning experience across MEICA or process engineering projects
  • Background in water, wastewater, or similar regulated industries (e.g. power, chemicals)
  • Proven experience leading commissioning activities across complex projects
  • Strong understanding of testing, verification and optimisation of plant performance
  • Experience working with engineering supply chains, contractors, and delivery partners
  • Excellent planning, coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Confident stakeholder engagement and leadership capability

Ideally you’ll hold an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, with an electrical or process background.

What’s in it for you

It’s not just a job – it’s a career. We’ll support your development while offering a competitive package that recognises your contribution.

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days)
  • Car allowance
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £2,250 based on company performance)
  • Market-leading pension (matched up to 15%)
  • Sharesave scheme
  • Dedicated training and development through our Academy
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail discounts
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
