At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

We are currently looking for a Resident Engineer to work full time across our Mega Projects, playing a key role in the successful delivery of large, complex capital schemes with individual project values ranging from £10m–£150m.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Resident Engineer role sits within our Capital Delivery business area and will work closely with the Construction Manager, Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure the effective, safe and high‑quality delivery of major infrastructure projects.

You will be based on site, liaising day‑to‑day with the Principal Contractor and wider supply chain to overcome issues as they arise and ensure the project is constructed in line with design, contractual and safety requirements. You will support the Project Manager in delivering projects on time and to budget, while maintaining strong focus on health & safety, environmental performance, customer impact and final asset quality.

You will be responsible for quality assurance across construction and commissioning activities, including inspections, site records, permits, and handover processes. You will also play a key role in incident investigation, defect resolution, risk management and the management of KPIs relating to quality and SHE performance.

This is a hands‑on role with responsibility across 1–2 concurrent projects, working closely with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure robust delivery across the full construction lifecycle.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You will have strong experience working on major construction or infrastructure projects, with particular expertise in large linear pipelines and trenchless solutions. You will be confident in managing delivery against cost and programme, with the ability to assess contractor performance and escalate issues where required.

You will have experience of working within CDM and NEC4 contractual environments, alongside practical knowledge of temporary works, lifting operations, hygiene and commissioning requirements. Prior experience managing site safety and quality assurance processes, supported by relevant accreditations such as IOSH or SMSTS, is essential.

You will be a proactive and forward‑thinking professional, able to anticipate potential risks and challenges and put controls in place to minimise impact. Strong communication skills are key, with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams, supply chain partners, customers and third parties, handling both positive and challenging conversations with confidence.

Flexibility, sound judgement and commercial awareness will enable you to prioritise effectively, manage finite resources and contribute to successful project outcomes. A caring attitude, commitment to safety and quality, and a willingness to take accountability will be central to your success in the role.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity and a caring attitude, we want to talk to you too.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involved. Those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?

We do more, because we care
