Are you passionate about protecting our rivers and the environment? Do you thrive in an outdoor, handson role where no two days are the same? Were looking for a Senior Field Technician on a 12 month fixed term contract to support and lead vital work within our River Water Quality Monitoring programme with a real focus on planning and optimisation.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in helping Severn Trent meet its commitments in ensuring that we understand, protect and enhance the quality of rivers across our region. You will maintain essential monitoring equipment, carry out onsite assessments, respond to operational issues, and act as a technical expert.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:


  • Performing site audits, risk assessments, and installation checks, especially during commissioning of new monitoring points.


  • Diagnosing equipment faults and investigating unexpected or atypical results, applying fixes and escalating issues appropriately.


  • Acting as a technical specialist, supporting improvements in processes, equipment, and IT systems.


  • Ensuring all work complies with the Quality Management System, relevant ISO standards, and MCERTS requirements.


  • Providing training, mentoring, and ongoing development for Field Technicians.


  • Engaging professionally with internal stakeholders as well as customers, landowners, and members of the public during site visits.


  • Supporting water quality incident responses, which may require working outside normal hours and participating in a standby rota.


  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety, including water safety training and demonstrating safe working behaviour.

 

 

 

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions is essential to this role combined with good physical fitness suitable for field-based work and remote locations meaning you will often be required for lone working.


Attention to detail and a commitment to high quality record keeping is essential so we are looking for candidates with excellent IT skills for equipment settings, data input and reporting.


We want people with strong interpersonal skills as well as a flair for customer service as you will be communicating with both internal and external stakeholders, customers and landowners.

 



In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have: 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong data analysis and administrative capabilities.

  • An analytical and methodical mindset with a proven ability to create new laboratory methods and to develop and optimise existing methods and procedures when necessary.

  • Previous experience with training and coaching.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise your own work.

  • A full UK driving license.

  • Environmental science qualifications would be highly desirable for the role.
