Planning Technician

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In this role, you’ll work both independently and as part of the team to prepare high‑quality responses to Local Planning Authorities across our region, ensuring all interactions are accurately recorded in our work management system. You’ll handle planning applications from multiple local authorities—often hundreds each week—ranging from major new housing developments to smaller individual projects. Every application is different, so you’ll need to be proactive, adaptable and confident in identifying the right approach for each case.

You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across Severn Trent and, when required, communicate directly with external customers. Engaging with customers to understand their needs will be an important part of the role, helping the wider team plan future activities effectively. You’ll take responsibility for working towards collaborative solutions that support our strategic aims and deliver positive outcomes.

We also count on you to support your teammates with wider development matters as needed, so being an excellent team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills is essential.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You’ll be confident working to set timescales while staying organised and able to prioritise a busy workload. You’ll have a strong eye for detail and be comfortable using online systems, including Excel and Microsoft Office.

As you’ll be responsible for ensuring work is accurately recorded and allocated within agreed service level agreements (SLAs), you’ll bring accuracy, reliability and the ability to manage a high volume of tasks effectively.
