EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
We’re looking for a confident Biologist with expertise in freshwater ecology to join our environmental monitoring team. This field-based role covers the Severn Trent region and involves macroinvertebrate sampling using kick-net techniques, water quality assessments, and identifying species to family level for RIVPACS analysis. You’ll also support wider team activities such as zooplankton analysis, algal and wastewater monitoring, and contribute to high-quality reporting for ecological assessments and compliance.
Key Accountabilities:

Field Sampling & Monitoring: Conduct kick-net sampling of macroinvertebrates and perform in-situ water quality measurements (e.g., temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity).

Species Identification & Analysis: Identify macroinvertebrates to family level for RIVPACS analysis using appropriate keys and support broader monitoring activities like zooplankton and algal assessments.

Data Recording & Reporting: Maintain detailed field records and prepare technical reports with ecological assessments, data interpretation, and recommendations.

Collaboration & Equipment Maintenance: Work closely with team members and stakeholders, ensuring safe fieldwork practices and assisting with calibration and upkeep of sampling equipment.

Provide expertise in fish identification, health and fishery recovery
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
To be successful in this role you will have great report writing and data analysis skills with a keen eye for detail. You will also ideally have degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
