Assistant Project Engineer

We are now looking for an Assistant Project Engineer – Compliance to join our Health, Safety, Security & Resilience (HSSR) – Process Safety team. In this role, you will support the management and delivery of statutory compliance activities across equipment such as:
- Lifting equipment (LOLER – Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998)
- Pressure systems (PSSR – Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000)
- Assets operating within zoned hazardous areas (DSEAR – Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002)
You will play a key role in delivering compliance programmes, managing third‑party frameworks, supporting operational and capital budgets, and acting as a central point of contact for Severn Trent (ST) and Hafren Dyfrdwy (HD) stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the effective management of statutory compliance across STW and HD, ensuring planned programmes of work are delivered and asset care packages are optimised for operational performance.
- Financial management of compliance activities, including raising purchase orders and receipting completed work.
- Take ownership of agreed statutory compliance workstreams, providing technical support and acting as a central coordination point for internal stakeholders.
- Support Lead Project Manager to measure performance against KPI’s and service level agreements, ensuring delivery standards are met and that issues or risks are promptly addressed.
- The collation and processing of data associated with compliance activities, contributing to the development and improvement of systems and processes that support regulatory and company standards.
You’ll be based out of our head office in Coventry and with this being such a critical role, we’re ideally looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience delivering multi‑site projects, ideally within environments involving operational and health & safety risks.
- Understanding of relevant standards, regulations, and legislative requirements.
- Good knowledge of operational and maintenance processes.
- Experience working with supply chain partners and service providers delivering operational or engineering activities.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety risk management.
- Proficiency in – Microsoft applications, processes, and budget management tools.

- Confidence to challenge internal teams and external suppliers to ensure delivery of agreed quality, time, and cost outcomes.

- A proactive and innovative mindset, with a willingness to drive positive change.
Qualifications (or working towards)
- Operational or Engineering qualification/experience
- Full UK driving licence
