LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT
We’re looking for a Principal Modelling Engineer to join our AI&I Hydraulic Modelling Team, playing a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and assuring the quality of our wastewater network models. You’ll lead modelling activities across multiple projects, support root cause analysis for pollution and flooding events, and ensure models meet Severn Trent Water’s standards.
You’ll also collaborate closely with our Data Science & Modelling teams to explore innovative approaches—combining hydraulic modelling, AI, and machine learning to deliver richer insights.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading hydraulic modelling work, including model build, updates, verification, audits, and fitness-for-use assessments.
- Managing Sewerage Management Plan consultants and ensuring all model outputs meet STW standards.
- Conducting root cause analysis for flooding and pollution investigations.
- Scoping and managing asset, flow, and catchment surveys.
- Reviewing and approving technical work carried out by the team and external partners.
- Presenting to internal and external stakeholders (EA, LLFA, customers).
- Mentoring junior modellers and contributing to technical innovation and quality assurance improvements.
You'll be base out of our head office in Derby, Raynesway within our Asset Management Modelling team. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You’ll have strong experience in wastewater network modelling and a solid understanding of hydraulic modelling principles.
You should bring:
- Experience using InfoWorks ICM and GIS tools.
- Proven ability in model build, updates, verification, and 1D/2D catchment modelling.
- Strong grasp of hydraulics, rainfall/runoff processes, and flow survey planning.
- Knowledge of wastewater network design, operation, and pollution mechanisms.
- Clear analytical skills and the ability to communicate insights effectively.
Desirable:
- Experience in Sewerage Management Planning and/or river water quality modelling.
- Understanding of WFD standards, UPM Manual, and wastewater construction methods.
