Civil Design Engineer

What do you get if you cross an award winning, innovative, water company and over 300 dedicated team members? Our Design team of course!

Our ambitious and innovative projects (all 5000+ of them) help to combat the challenges of waste and water infrastructure, flooding, and water quality. Being part of our inhouse designers means we can do the best by our customers and our water.

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

Which is why we are investing over £2billion into construction projects over the next five years to improve the services we provide.

Here at Severn Trent Water, we are on a very exciting journey!

Do you have experience working within the waste networks? Are you a Design Engineer looking for a new challenge? Do you like working in a fast paced and challenging environment?

We have a wide range of infrastructure waste network work going in our team and we can offer you technical exposure and skills you need to progress your career. Would you like to build your career in a place where you can grow?

Well, if you are, read on.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In this role you`ll be designing solutions or managing consultants for waste networks projects. This will include gravity pipes and tanks, combined sewer overflows, pumping stations and rising mains and SuDS. During the early stages of a project, you will collect data, identify, and assess the cost benefit of innovative options to solve wastewater catchment needs.

As the project progresses you will be responsible for design calculations, hydraulic modelling of options, CAD drawings production, ensure compliance with standards and specification and pull together the design pack for tender, all while helping us to achieve our goals for health & safety, ecology, net zero carbon and biodiversity enhancement.

You will be responsible for generating the best overall solutions to the challenges of tomorrow’s environmental needs and customer expectations.

You’ll take projects right through from project inception through optioneering, outline and detailed design and construction support.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

You`ll come equipped with your engineering design experience, you’ll be a keen problem solver who drives projects forward to meet challenging deadlines, works flexibly to support the whole team always looking for learning opportunities and you`ll also need to engage with our customers and stakeholders so you’ll need to be confident communicating with stakeholders and building relationships both within Severn Trent and externally.

Having a water industry background would be great but not essential, however, experience in civil or hydraulic design is vital for this role.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help us do just that.

We do more because we care.

We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.
