Regional Planner
LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT
At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.
Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.
If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.
LET’S TELL YOU MORE
The Planner plays a critical role in shaping the future delivery of operational work across our teams. Accountable for a defined region or county, the Planner is responsible for building and maintaining a robust, optimised forward plan—typically looking up to three months ahead. This plan must maximise the efficient use of available operational capacity, including optimising space for field teams and minimising travel time between jobs.
You’ll be based at our Pride Park Offices in Derby with regular (monthly) travel to sites for Planning meetings. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week, 8:00am – 16:00pm Monday-Thursday and 08:00am-15:30pm Friday and holds a driving license and is able to travel to sites.
The Regional Planner is expected to consider a range of operational and customer-focused factors to ensure the plan supports both performance targets and service excellence. This role will interact with many teams across different functions to ensure that the right work gets done in the right way. Once complete, the plan is handed over to Schedulers, who manage in-day execution and adjustments.
HOW WE WORK
You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. You’ll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported when you need it up to two days a week once fully up to speed.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Planners must be highly analytical and detail-oriented, capable of interpreting demand and capacity data to inform planning decisions and resource allocation. They will use performance reports and planning tools to identify risks, highlight opportunities, and continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the forward plan. This role requires critical thinking, strong organisational skills, and the ability to anticipate and resolve potential conflicts before they impact delivery.
Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We’re looking for people who want to get involved, be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN
It’s not just a job; it’s a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award‑winning training to help you reach your potential. You’ll also contribute to the environment and community. Some of our benefits include:
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year)
- Annual bonus scheme (up to £1,500, subject to eligibility)
- Family-friendly policies, including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave
