Our Asset Strategy team has an exciting opportunity for you to join as a Sewerage Asset Strategy Lead to play a key role in managing a team to optimise the performance of Severn Trent’s sewerage infrastructure assets to ensure they deliver maximum value over their lifecycle. Developing long-term asset management strategies aligned with organisational goals is essential to ensure the organisation makes the right short term tactical investment decisions that align with long term aspiration.
Sitting within our Chief Engineer directorate, the Strategic Asset Planning team provides the linkage between our long-term DWMP and more tactical investment teams. As the manager of this team of four subject matter experts, this role will enable you to use your technical experience in sewerage networks, covering capacity, growth, environmental and asset health to develop our strategic thinking.
Some of the other key accountabilities:
Strategic Oversight:
-
- Oversee the development and implementation of asset management strategies across sewerage asset classes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
- Collaborate with senior management and other subservices to set strategic priorities and ensure the team’s efforts support the overall business plan.
- Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes, and integrate this knowledge into the team’s strategies.
Leadership and Team Development:
-
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four Asset Managers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional development opportunities for team members.
Secure funding and efficient use of customers money:
- Develop compelling business cases that set out investment needs in the context of the long-term strategy and future uncertainty (such as the impacts of climate change).
- Manage and prioritise budgets.
- Set and manage efficiency metrics to track efficient delivery of investment
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
-
- Ensure the team’s activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Represent the Waste Networks Strategy team in meetings with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and data, addressing any queries from regulatory bodies.

With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week, WFH flexibility available and travel to other sites will be required at times so you’ll need to hold a full U.K driving licence.
As travel is required, you’ll also have to hold a full U.K driving licence.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
To be successful, it’s expected you’ll have detailed knowledge and experience of wastewater planning and UK legislation. Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams would be advantageous.
You’ll also have the ability to interpret technical drainage options and communicate this to various parties at an appropriate level of detail and work in a world of ambiguity, often to flexible and changing deadlines.
Additionally, you’ll have experience of building effective working relationships with a diverse range of people from senior management to front line and able to successfully deliver on multiple commitments under pressure, understanding and applying a relevant level of quality to each piece of work.
Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
