Our Finance Summer Placement offers a unique opportunity to explore the financial engine of a FTSE 100 company, with our finance department being one of the only ones outside London to have an all-encompassing Finance department, with over 300 employees within finance, you’ll gain insight into how a regulated business manages its finances, while contributing to real projects that influence our strategic direction and operational success.
The programme comprises working within one of our key teams in Taxation, Business Information, Treasury, Business Planning or ESG (environmental, social & governance). This placement is designed to give you a deep understanding of how finance supports decision-making, drives performance, and ensures long-term sustainability.
THINGS YOU MIGHT LEARN
- Support the development of financial plans and forecasts that guide business strategy and investment decisions.
- Gain exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, and performance analysis across different business units.
- Understand how taxation and treasury functions operate within a regulated environment.
- Learn how financial data is used to inform strategic choices and improve business outcomes.
- Contribute to projects that enhance financial transparency, governance, and compliance.
- Work closely on climate, nature, and sustainable finance disclosures, supporting investor influence and ESG reporting.
- Collaborate with the Investor Relations team and contribute to projects with visibility at CFO level.
This programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience to build a successful career in Finance, Business Planning, or Corporate Strategy. You’ll develop analytical thinking, commercial awareness, and financial acumen, while gaining exposure to a fast-paced, purpose-driven organisation.

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?
During the 8-week or 12-week placement you will be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, placing you right at the heart of our operations, you will be working day to day with industry professionals, taking lead on projects and real-life work.

Depending on your year of study, the programme could lead to a fast-track opportunity into another internship programme or even our graduate scheme—helping you take the next step in your career with Severn Trent.
ABOUT THE PLACEMENT
Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ
Programme Duration: 8 or 12 weeks
Starting Salary: £23,492 pro rata
Entry Criteria:
- A studying for a degree ideally in Finance, Accounting, Maths, Economics, Business Studies or any other related degree
You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
