Strategic Improvement Lead

We’re looking for a Strategic Improvement Lead – Regulatory Performance and Delivery to help shape and lead our cost of failure agenda across Severn Trent. This is a brilliant opportunity to bring a consultancy mindset into the business, using insight, commercial thinking and structured problem-solving to help us drive efficiency, improve performance and make better decisions for our customers, communities and environment.

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

This role sits at the heart of Strategy and Regulation, within our Regulatory Performance and Delivery team. You’ll take ownership of our enterprise-wide cost of failure framework, helping senior leaders understand where avoidable cost exists, where opportunities can be unlocked, and how we can make better, evidence-led decisions. You’ll also lead a portfolio of high-impact improvement projects, working across teams including Strategy and Regulation, Finance, Continuous Improvement and operational teams.

We’re building more of an internal consultancy capability, so you’ll bring structure to complex challenges, ask the right questions and help turn insight into practical action. That could mean identifying opportunities to improve automation, reduce duplication, strengthen governance or support better investment choices. You won’t always own every workstream directly, but you’ll play a key role in connecting activity across the organisation, creating pace and helping teams focus on the changes that will make the biggest difference.

You’ll be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, working within our Strategy and Regulation function. There may be some travel across our sites when it helps you build relationships, understand the business and support delivery.

HOW WE WORK

You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive, but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. You’ll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported when you need it.

You’ll work in a matrix way across the business, partnering with senior stakeholders, operational teams and subject matter experts to understand challenges, shape solutions and keep delivery moving. The role will start as a standalone position, but there is real potential for it to grow over time as the team and capability develop.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for someone who can bring clarity to ambiguity, challenge constructively and build trusted relationships across the business. You’ll have experience delivering consultancy-style projects or working in regulated, infrastructure or complex organisations, with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders and translate insight into action.

You’ll be commercially minded, comfortable working with data and able to connect operational performance, customer outcomes, financial impact and regulatory priorities. Experience in strategy consulting, transformation, continuous improvement, cost modelling, economic analysis or operating model design would be helpful, but what matters most is your ability to solve problems, influence others and deliver meaningful outcomes.

You’ll be at your best when you’re working across boundaries, bringing people together and helping teams move from ideas to action. You’ll be curious, resilient and pragmatic, with the confidence to work with senior leaders while adapting your style to different audiences. If you enjoy shaping something new and can see what a strong internal consultancy capability could look like over the next two to three years, we’d love to hear from you.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We’re looking for people who want to get involved, be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

It’s not just a job; it’s a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award‑winning training to help you reach your potential. You’ll also contribute to the environment and community. Some of our benefits include:
