Within our Capital Delivery department, we are looking for a Senior Programme Manager to join our Coventry Team.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Based from our Finham (Coventry) or Head office (Coventry), the Senior Programme Manager will lead an integrated team to deliver portfolios and programmes of work within Severn Trent’s Capital Investment Programme. You will lead a team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, working with key stakeholders to deliver assigned projects to time and budget, continuously challenging and innovating to improve performance and drive continuous improvement. You will provide robust leadership to enable design, procurement and construction of multiple projects as well as nurturing the development of your team and their success.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
- The Senior Programme Manager is accountable for the strategic leadership, integration and successful delivery of complex programmes and portfolios of projects within the Capital Delivery framework.
- The role provides senior programme-level oversight, assurance and direction across multiple project teams, ensuring delivery aligns to organisational strategy, governance requirements and customer outcomes.
- Operating above the Lead Project Manager role, the Senior Programme Manager sets programme direction, resolves complex cross-project risks and dependencies, and provides senior leadership intervention where delivery challenges arise.
- Demonstrating strong leadership capability, with direct line management accountability for project management teams.
- The role deputises for the Delivery Business Lead as required, representing the sub-service in senior forums, supporting strategic planning and decision-making, and ensuring continuity of leadership, performance and governance across the programme.
- The Senior Programme Manager plays a key role in driving consistency, performance improvement and innovation across capital programmes, while embedding a strong safety culture and ensuring sustainable, compliant delivery.
- Comfortable travelling to sites and offices across the region as required
WHAT EXPEREINCE IS REQUIRED
- Proven experience leading and managing project management teams within a capital delivery or complex delivery environment.

Proven experience leading the delivery of complex programmes or portfolios of projects within a capital delivery or regulated infrastructure environment, with accountability for integrating multiple workstreams and delivery teams.

Significant experience operating at senior programme level, providing leadership, direction and assurance across multiple Project Managers and Lead Project Managers, with direct line management accountability.

Demonstrable experience resolving high-complexity delivery risks, interdependencies and escalations, including issues that impact programme outcomes, investment confidence or customer commitments.

Experience working within NEC contract environments and large-scale capital programmes, with a strong understanding of commercial, contractual and supplier-related risk at programme level.

Proven ability to provide programme-level oversight of cost, schedule, risk and benefits, ensuring robust governance, controls and assurance are consistently applied.

Strong understanding of H&S legislation, CDM requirements and engineering risk management, with experience embedding safety-first behaviours across large delivery programmes.

Experience contributing to medium- to long-term programme planning, investment prioritisation and delivery strategy, working in partnership with senior stakeholders, PMO and commercial teams.

Demonstrable capability to represent programmes in senior governance and escalation forums, providing clear, evidence-based recommendations and decision support.

Strong stakeholder leadership skills, with experience influencing and working collaboratively with senior internal stakeholders, delivery partners and supply chain leadership.

A proactive, strategic and improvement-focused mindset, with experience using performance insight, lessons learned and innovation to improve programme delivery outcomes.

Highly developed communication and organisational skills, with strong IT literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Power BI).
