About the Role
We’re looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Derby. In this role, you’ll design innovative technical solutions for Severn Trent Water’s assets and infrastructure—covering everything from feasibility studies to detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
No two days will be the same! You’ll work on a wide variety of projects, including health & safety improvements, pumping systems, rotating machinery, hydraulics, and more. You’ll also play a key part in fulfilling Severn Trent’s responsibilities as Principal Designer under CDM regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business challenges and develop solutions.
- Define design milestones and support project managers in delivering successful outcomes.
- Carry out feasibility studies and conceptual design appraisals to create efficient, cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with design standards, assurance processes, and CDM regulations.
- Coach and mentor team members to build capability.
- Approve designs from internal and external sources.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
You’ll be degree qualified (desirable) and showing your professional commitment as a member of one of the engineering Institutions or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on.
Having water sector experience or similar (Petrochem / Pharmaceutical / Food / Aerospace / Power) would be required. Extensive experience of working closely with supply chain in delivering projects (with emphasis on adherence to CDM design specification, H&S, outputs, and quality) would be advantageous. A full UK driving licence will be essential.
Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.
We do more, because we care.
