We’re more than just a water company. We're dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment, sustainability, and the communities we serve. By joining us, you’ll work with the latest technologies, driving forward-thinking projects that enhance and protect national infrastructure, making a real difference to the communities we serve.

With nearly 10,000 colleagues, we're looking for more brilliant people who are passionate about sustainability, eager to innovate, and ready to turn challenges into opportunities for a better future.

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

We’re looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist, to join our Hydrogeology team in Tactical Asset Planning. We are based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, and you’ll work 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

This is an opportunity to join a strong team of hydrogeologists with a variety of skills and backgrounds who work together in a supportive environment to solve problems and find solutions for our groundwater assets.

As part of our Hydrogeology Team, you'll play a key role in protecting and managing the groundwater resources that supply around a third of Severn Trent's drinking water. Working alongside a team of technical specialists, you'll advise the business on how to manage our groundwater assets in response to changes in demand or water quality and help shape our groundwater strategy.

You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to protect and enhance raw water quality, improve our asset data and processes, and deliver robust evidence that helps inform business decisions. You'll also support and mentor junior team members while contributing to a range of strategic and operational projects across the business.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Providing hydrogeological expertise to support groundwater operations, water quality, source performance, asset improvements and capital projects, including undertaking investigations and testing where required.
  • Assessing groundwater quality and abstraction risks, analysing long-term trends, and developing solutions that support sustainable water resources, regulatory compliance and catchment management objectives.
  • Working closely with operational teams, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure groundwater resources are effectively managed and protected, while providing specialist support during drought and peak demand periods.
  • Delivering training on groundwater and assets to other personnel in the business.
  • Maintaining and enhancing groundwater and asset data, delivering catchment risk assessments, and identifying process improvements that drive business performance and support future planning.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We're looking for an experienced hydrogeologist with a MSc in Hydrogeology, or a closely related discipline, with a proven track record of working in hydrogeology or water resources. You'll bring significant experience working with boreholes, groundwater systems, water resource management and have a strong understanding of drinking water quality standards and environmental or regulatory sectors.

You'll bring an understanding of the UK water industry and the regulatory processes that shape it, particularly within water resources planning. You'll be a collaborative communicator who can build strong relationships with regulators, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, using data and evidence to solve complex challenges and deliver sustainable groundwater management solutions. We need an individual with great project planning and organisational skills.  Just as importantly you’ll demonstrate care for our customers, the environment and for team members.

We are particularly interested in those with experience in:

  • Legislation influencing water resources and groundwater
  • The regulations and standards around drinking water quality
  • Asset management of groundwater assets
  • Groundwater and water resource evaluation processes and techniques
  • Contaminant investigations, remedial options, treatment processes
  • A track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders
  • An understanding of the water industry, the regulatory price review and the Water Resources Management Planning processes.
