Senior Finance Business Partner

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Severn Trent is significantly increasing its capital investment programme, set to more than double over the next five years.   We’re looking for an experienced Finance Business Partner to play a pivotal role in shaping, improving and optimising the financial performance of our capital programme at a portfolio level, in a fast‑paced and evolving environment.

This is a high‑impact, senior finance role requiring strong commercial judgement, the ability to manage complex and competing priorities, and the confidence to partner across the business, driving delivery to plan while identifying opportunities to outperform.

This is an exciting and varied opportunity, offering a rare mix of strategic insight, regulatory translation and hands on delivery. You will be intellectually curious, quick thinking and have a talent for making the complicated feel simple.  In this role you’ll have end to end visibility across the full portfolio leading the development of insight, reporting,  option development and automation needed to optimise programme affordability.

Working closely with teams across FP&A, Asset Planning, Treasury & Regulation , you’ll help drive alignment and shared understanding of key planning and delivery drivers, building a broad network and a strong understanding of how planning, funding, delivery and regulation fit together.

You’ll  also establish yourself as a trusted partner, providing credible challenge, governance and oversight across high value programme spend, particularly supporting Asset Planning and Capital Commercial  teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll provide financial leadership, partnering and governance for the financial outcomes of the Tactical Asset Planning area, delivery‑side cost oversight and reporting. You’ll also lead the development and embedding of Programme Affordability reporting and controls, while working closely with the Commercial team to drive efficiencies, improve supplier spend management and maximise value.

As a finance business partner, you’ll lead and own the construction, monitoring and reporting of programme affordability, including AMP‑level forecasts, budgets and output targets. You’ll deliver clear, accurate and insightful financial information throughout the programme lifecycle, enabling timely interventions and supporting informed decision‑making that aligns delivery and regulatory financial outcomes.

You’ll represent programme finances at senior forums, including Approval Boards and Investment Committee, as well as regular day-to-day interaction with senior leadership.  You will be comfortable balancing pace and risk to ensure we remain within our cost envelope while meeting our wider commitments.

As a line manager, you’ll motivate and inspire your team across a varied and complex programme, building strong engagement and a culture of constructive challenge, control and collaboration. You’ll support the development of high‑performing finance professionals with the capability to deliver robust financial planning, high‑quality insight and value‑based decision making.

You’ll lead by example in adhering to policies, procedures and controls, while continuing to challenge non‑value‑adding activity and champion practical, solutions‑focused ways of working.
