Senior Commissioning Engineer

We are looking for Senior Process or MEICA Commissioning Engineer to join us within our Capital Delivery team. You will support Capital Delivery programmes working on water and waste projects, utilising your knowledge to provide a clear strategy for commissioning activities. 

 

The type of projects you could expect to work on will be a variety of industry leading Water and Wastewater treatment initiatives. Our National Environmental Policy programme for example is covering many wastewater sites, involving a number of stakeholders and utilising a number of new technology process units. We are also investing in Advanced Digestion and various resilience work streams.

 

This role can be based from any of our Capital & Commercial hubs in Coventry, Derby or Shrewsbury but the successful candidate will be flexible with travel.

 

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW   

 

  • The role will have a particular emphasis around commissioning, including working with the Supply chain, Severn Trent Operational and Network Control colleagues.  
  • Developing and delivering detailed commissioning methodologies and driving continuous improvements.
  • Liaison with the contractor to collate suitable training plans for Wholesale Operations, with a view that in the future you would become a point of contact to assist with upskilling and training to Wholesale Operations as and when required.
  • There may be a requirement to support ad-hoc commissioning requests from the wider business on topics such as disinfection systems, or projects of a similar a technical nature.
  • Responsible for the successful delivery (outputs and dates within allowable expenditure), especially commissioning and hand over, of those projects assigned to him/her
  • Execute commissioning plans with Project Manager and the Contractor
  • Contribute to: Design meetings, Factory tests, Site acceptance testing, Hazop meetings, development and acceptance of testing, commissioning and training plans
  • Facilitate the handover of projects to production upon completion
  • Responsible for the provision of technical support and assistance to production during commissioning and handover of projects.
  • Contribute to the development of project delivery and commissioning planning documents
  • Respond to and address incidents with the Project Manager as and when they occur and ensure the root cause is identified and actions taken to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Contribute to project closure / review sessions to ensure lessons learned are captured and commissioning manuals updated
  • Undertake some line manager responsibilities where needed

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

  • Having extensive knowledge/experience around Process Commissioning and/or Mechanical, electrical, Instrumentation, control and automation.
  • Good planning and delivery will allow you to understand how our assets work and ensure they are fully commissioned safely and on programme.
  • It is desirable that you will be qualified to an HND level in an engineering discipline with a degree also being of benefit, however a time served background in water/waste/process testing and commissioning would also be useful and be given due consideration. 
  • We are looking for somebody who is confident, proactive and shows resilience in sometimes challenging situations.
  • You’ll be personable and be able to build relationships quickly with our contracting partners and to influence them.
  • As a senior member of the team, you will support the Commissioning Manager when needed in day-to-day activities or upon more specific longer term projects, in addition you may be required to lead a small team of engineers. As such some line management experience and qualifications would be advantageous.

 

Furthermore, to this you’ll have:

 

  • Extensive experience in Process/MEICA commissioning activities
  • Understanding of water networks and infrastructure
  • Be able to demonstrate successful examples of project delivery
  • Understand the importance of good commissioning and optimisation and how to achieve this
  • Expertise and demonstrable experience in the verification of plant processes and performance
  • Plant acceptance on behalf of Client organisations
  • Overview knowledge of NEC Conditions of Contract
  • Experience of supply chain management (with emphasis on financial, H&S, outputs, and quality)
  • Risk management knowledge and understanding
