EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our purpose is taking care one of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care. It’s due to this care that Severn Trent as a company has a massive focus on driving and maintaining high compliance and assurance standards across the whole group.

We have two new exciting new opportunities for Risk and Controls Assurance Specialists who will lead the implementation of our material controls review and assurance programme.

You’ll help deliver assurance over key controls, support regular reporting, and enable the Board’s annual declaration. Working with teams across the business,  you’ll challenge and support stakeholders and help drive a culture of control awareness and continuous improvement. This is a unique chance to influence change and help protect what matters most at Severn Trent.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) for material controls.
  • Deliver the material controls assurance programme and support the ERM framework.
  • Work with control owners to link risk, controls, and compliance.
  • Coordinate audits with Internal and External Audit teams.
  • Help improve the material controls framework across the Group.
  • Identify control gaps and recommend fixes.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and the Board.
  • Support assurance planning aligned with business priorities.

You'll be based at our Severn Trent Centre in Coventry and with this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us full time, 37 hours a week.

HOW WE WORK

You'll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why, we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. So, you'll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

To thrive in this role, you’ll likely have:

  • Solid experience in internal audit, risk, or assurance within a complex organisation.
  • Hands-on exposure to control testing, risk assessments, and governance frameworks.
  • Ideally, experience in FTSE-listed or regulated environments.
  • A good understanding of the UK Corporate Governance Code and its impact on internal controls.
  • Familiarity with assurance and governance processes, and how to navigate regulatory requirements.
  • A natural ability to build strong relationships—from senior leaders to frontline teams.
  • Experience writing clear, concise governance or regulatory documents.
  • Confidence managing projects, improving processes, and driving change.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
