Within our Capital Delivery department, we are looking for Project Managers to join the team.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Based out of our Finham (Coventry) or Rayneway (Derby) office and reporting to the Lead Project Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple capital engineering and construction schemes, delivering on key project KPIs within Severn Trent’s Capital and Commercial Services business area.
Role Objective:

The Project Manager is accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of significant capital projects within an agreed scope, complexity and risk profile, ensuring that time, cost, quality, safety and benefits are managed in line with Capital Delivery governance and assurance requirements.

The role provides independent leadership across the full project lifecycle, owning project planning, financial control, risk management, contract and supplier performance, stakeholder engagement and the successful transition of change into business‑as‑usual.

Working across multiple projects and sites, the Project Manager applies strong commercial, technical and safety judgement, leads engagement with internal and external stakeholders and delivery partners, and ensures that projects deliver sustainable outcomes aligned to organisational strategy and customer priorities.

The role also provides direction and oversight to Assistant Project Managers and Project Co-ordinators, role‑modelling professional standards, continuous improvement and Severn Trent values.
Key accountabilities:

Accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of significant projects, ensuring scope, time, cost, quality, safety and benefits are managed in line with Capital Delivery governance and assurance requirements.

Owns project planning and controls for assigned projects, developing and assuring integrated schedules, budgets, risk and change control, and taking corrective action within delegated authority, escalating complex or high‑risk issues to the Senior Project Manager or members of the senior team where required.

Leads the full contract and supplier management lifecycle for major projects, including procurement strategy, specification development, negotiation, delegated NEC Project Manager duties, performance management and contract close‑out.

Manages project finances end‑to‑end, including cost planning, forecasting, reporting and control, approving changes within accountability level and ensuring accurate final accounts and financial closure.

Owns the risk management approach for assigned projects, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, and escalating risks that exceed agreed tolerances or impact cross‑project dependencies to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.

Leads stakeholder engagement for assigned projects, building effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and delivery partners, and escalating issues requiring cross‑project alignment or strategic intervention to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.

Leads or contributes significantly to business case development for assigned investments, applying organisational strategy, investment appraisal techniques and risk assessment, with Senior Project Manager or senior team oversight for complex or high‑value proposals.

Accountable for the transition of change into business‑as‑usual, including readiness assessments, knowledge transfer, operational handover and benefits realisation.

Owns requirements management for assigned projects, leading feasibility and options appraisal and managing change control, escalating complex trade‑offs or cross‑project impacts to the Senior Project Manager or senior team.

Ensures safety is embedded throughout project delivery, applying H&S legislation, principles of prevention and safety risk management, and leading contributions to buildability, constructability and risk reviews.

Provides day‑to‑day direction and oversight to Assistant Project Managers and Project Co-ordinator for assigned projects, role‑modelling professional standards and escalating capability or capacity issues to the Senior Project Manager or members of senior team.

Consistently complies with all Health & Safety and organisational standards and compliance, acting as a visible advocate for health, safety and wellbeing.

Identifies opportunities to drive efficiencies through the use of AI.

Work across multiple sites and locations as required to support project delivery.

Experience required:
-
Experience leading NEC project management frameworks (or equivalent) and capital delivery environments.

Demonstrable application of risk, contract, and budget management.

Strong understanding of project standards, codes, CDM regulations and best practice.

Highly organised with strong attention to detail and professional communication skills (written and verbal).

Advanced commercial awareness and ability to interpret supplier, contractual and financial information.

Proactive, forward‑thinking approach with strong problem‑solving capability.

Builds effective working relationships across teams and senior stakeholders.

Experience of mentoring, coaching and developing project teams.

Commitment to personal development and continuous improvement.

Strong IT literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Power Bi).

Proven experience delivering significant projects with clear ownership of key responsibilities.

Is expected to have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a project management role.
Key competencies required:
Project Management
Builds and maintains accurate plans, schedules, logs and budgets across multiple projects, proactively managing cost, risk, resources and delivery; escalating scope or schedule deviations through internal change control process. Ability to oversee the project review cycle to ensure benefits, lessons learnt and appraisals are captured and embedded consistently to drive continuous improvement.
Contract management
Able to lead the full contract and supplier management lifecycle for major projects, establishing formal agreements, developing compliant specifications, and carrying out delegated NEC Project Management duties. Manages procurement and resource acquisition, evaluates supplier proposals, and negotiates commercial and delivery outcomes. Monitors supplier performance, maintains strong contractor relationships to resolve issues quickly, and ensures all contracts are closed out in line with financial, procedural, and quality requirements.
Risk management
Applies a solid and consistent approach to risk management across the full project lifecycle, independently identifying and managing risks and escalations, and drawing on training, tools and professional networks to support effective mitigation.
Stakeholder management
Works independently with stakeholders to understand and respond to their needs, flexing communication and influencing styles as appropriate. Identifies and applies improved communication approaches to support efficient project delivery, and uses established professional networks to engage senior stakeholders where required to positively contribute to project outcomes.
Change management
Independently contributes to the development of business cases for significant projects, applying a sound understanding of organisational context, investment appraisal techniques and risk. Supports the transition of change into business‑as‑usual by assessing user readiness, identifying knowledge and resourcing requirements, and working with stakeholders to plan and deliver effective handover and benefits realisation.
Budget management
Independently manages all aspects of cost planning, estimating, reporting, forecasting and control for significant projects, taking corrective action where needed and applying the change control process appropriately. Ensures financial transactions are fully completed before project closure and prepares clear final financial reports for relevant stakeholders.
Critical thinking
Independently manages the requirements management process for significant projects, applying a sound understanding of feasibility analysis, well‑defined requirements and change control. Uses negotiation and influencing skills to balance wants, needs and constraints, refine requirements as projects progress, and secure stakeholder agreement on priorities, success criteria and delivery schedules.
Safety in construction
Consistently applies key H&S legislation, the principles of prevention, and safety risk management tools through compliant design and scoping documentation. Is able to demonstrate adherence to key processes and guidelines, and active contribution to buildability, constructability, and risk reviews.
