LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

We’re a 24/7 business delivering an essential service to millions of people - and that means the stories we tell, and how we tell them, really matter.  Our press office sits at the heart of the organisation, shaping our reputation in real time across local, regional and national media and our owned digital channels. From breaking news to standout creative campaigns; from operational incidents to feel-good community stories, no two days are the same.

We’re now looking for two talented Press Officers to join our team — one focused on creative, consumer-led PR and one supporting our corporate communications strategy.  And as part of the wider communications team, you’ll collaborate closely working in partnership to deliver impactful headlines and brilliant stories.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where news never stops, love building relationships, and know how to turn complex topics into compelling stories in a digital world - we’d love to hear from you.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Operating at the heart of a busy, high-performing press office, managing media enquiries and protecting the company’s reputation
  • Building strong relationships with journalists and media outlets across local, regional and national platforms
  • Creating, writing and pitching compelling stories that land impactful coverage
  • Developing and delivering proactive PR campaigns across consumer and corporate topics
  • Producing engaging, talk about content tailored for a fast-moving, digital media environment
  • Supporting media events, briefings and campaigns that bring our stories to life
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to spokespeople — and confidently representing the business in interviews when needed
  • Playing a key role during operational incidents, helping deliver clear, timely, customer-focused communications
  • Monitoring media coverage and using insight to continually improve our approach

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You’ll be a confident and creative communicator who thrives under pressure and understands what makes a story cut through.  You’ll be experienced working as part of a cross-functional team to bring your PR-expertise in a variety of projects and campaigns:

  • Proven experience in a busy press office or PR environment
  • Excellent writing and creative content skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, engaging content
  • Strong media instincts — you know what makes a story land and how to sell it in
  • Experience managing reactive media enquiries, including during incidents or high-pressure situations
  • A proactive mindset, always looking for opportunities to tell positive, meaningful stories in traditional and digital media
  • Confident working with stakeholders at all levels and building trusted relationships
  • A team player who’s curious, collaborative and keen to learn

You’ll be part of a caring, supportive, creative and ambitious external communications team — with the freedom to bring new ideas, push boundaries and make your mark.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We’re looking for people who want to get involved, be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
