We’re a 24/7 business, providing an essential Utility to millions of customers across the Midlands and as such, we have an extremely busy press office that operates at local, regional and national level. To help support our team share the great work we’re delivering, we’re looking to recruit two Press Officers, one to support our consumer PR and one to support our corporate communications.
As our new Press Officer, you’ll be helping to share stories on all the great things we do with the media, our customers and with our stakeholders in the communities in which we operate. We’ll be looking for you to develop relationships with key journalists that will help generate positive media coverage and respond quickly to media enquiries. As a 24-7 business, we also play a role in protecting our reputation and supporting the business with any operational issues to ensure a positive outcome for customers.
You’ll play an important role in a fast-paced environment, be adept at creating great content, and hosting media events, briefing spokespeople and often represent the company yourself in interviews whilst also supporting on campaign planning and delivery as part of a wider communications team to deliver great headlines and brilliant stories.

Your key accountabilities will include:
• Work within the busy press office, ensuring that we manage all media interest whilst protecting and promoting the reputation of the business
• Help to promote successes and good news through creating, writing and selling in stories and features
• Develop and implement a programme of proactive PR campaigns for consumer and corporate
• Create talked about content for proactive media and communications campaigns
• Monitor media coverage and prepare regular evaluation reports to support continual improvement
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for our new Press Officer to be a great communicator, both verbally and written as well as having the passion and creativity to bring new ideas to the table to help make our service even better. You’ll have a proven track record of working in a busy press office and will have the skills to deliver effective communications during incidents and working under pressure.
You’ll need to be a real team player. Someone who is willing to learn all about our complex business and then go and build relationships and make contacts at all levels both internally and externally.
