EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Due to growth within our Legal Team, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Paralegal (Regulatory & Environmental) to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract.
Join a high-performing legal team supporting Severn Trent Water and HD on regulatory, water quality, and environmental matters. You’ll collaborate across the business to manage regulator engagement (EA, NRW, DWI, Ofwat), respond to incidents, and support audits and investigations.
Working closely with Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll help navigate legal processes, contribute to enforcement actions, and protect company assets from third-party risks. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence regulatory strategy and drive improvements in a dynamic sector
This role does not require a Legal Qualification—you’ll work under the guidance of experienced legal professionals. We’re proud of our strong track record in developing talent, and this role offers a fantastic opportunity to build your skills in stakeholder engagement, sharpen your written communication across all levels, and deepen your understanding of our regulated business.
Further responsibilities include:
- Support regulatory engagement: respond to information requests, investigate incidents, and present evidence to regulators and internal stakeholders
- Assist with regulatory challenges and enforcement actions, including civil/criminal proceedings and formal responses
- Collaborate on cross-team process improvements to enhance regulatory performance
- Liaise with external legal counsel and contribute to internal reporting, including STEC (Executive) and board updates
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re looking for someone with strong organisational and analytical skills, who thrives under pressure and pays close attention to detail. You’ll be a team player with a curious mindset, eager to learn and challenge the status quo.
Excellent communication and writing skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. An interest in the water sector and environmental regulation is key.
You’ll need the ability to quickly understand different business areas, prioritise effectively, and drive improvements with determination and persistence.
Coaching on legal and regulatory matters will be provided
