Overflow Strategy and Performance Management Lead

At Severn Trent, we’re more than a water and waste company — we’re driving bold transformation through high-impact programmes that tackle complex challenges, from upgrading strategic systems to achieving our net zero carbon goals.

It’s our people who truly set us apart. We’re proud to be an inclusive workplace where you can be yourself, grow your skills, and make a real impact. Join our expanding team to help shape the future of Severn Trent.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our River Enhancement team are looking for an Overflow Strategy and Performance Management Lead who will be responsible for setting the strategic direction and continuously driving tangible improvement in our storm overflow and emergency overflow spills performance. You’ll play a key role in ensuring we meet compliance requirements while also delivering enhancements that enable us to meet and exceed company-level targets and external performance commitments.

In this role, you will take full ownership of the targeting strategy, performance management, forecasting insights, reporting framework and stakeholder engagement for CSO performance. You will lead the prioritisation of improvement activity and be accountable for measuring and evidencing the benefits these initiatives deliver across the business. As a team leader, you will identify and size opportunities, track benefits, and embed continuous learning to drive successful outcomes. You will also be responsible for balancing team resources in a high‑demand environment and providing clear, influential performance insight to senior stakeholders.

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Delivering an excellent level of insight into performance data, not just presenting this to the business but turning this into practical application and influencing the business to drive and deliver the opportunities
  • Developing the team to exploit data to identify inefficient processes, new opportunities and support high quality decision making
  • Creation of new and fluid measures and reports to respond to performance shifts and to drive operational teams to measure their compliance to strategy, process and regulatory commitments
  • Tracking the delivery and tangible benefits of a number of improvement ideas and programmes across Waste Networks, taking accountability for highlighting concerns and escalating issues quickly to ensure the best possible outcomes for our customers.
  • Bridging the gap between the overflow strategy and our operational teams, translating that strategy into something practically applicable for the 12-24 month horizon including target setting and in year delivery plans
  • Aiding future strategic decision making around performance, such as supporting ODI development and targets for PR24, supporting innovation and assessing new ideas for feasibility and impact

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge of waste network processes and experience working in operational and regulatory environments. You’ll have a proven ability to analyse complex data and extract meaningful insight to drive performance improvement. Naturally curious, motivated and action‑orientated, you’ll be able to take ideas from concept through to delivery and benefits realisation, presenting confidently to a range of audiences and influencing teams to secure buy‑in.

Ideally, you will also have experience managing multiple high‑profile performance metrics and delivering step changes in results. Your strengths will include building strong relationships, gaining credibility quickly and maintaining effective stakeholder engagement at all levels. Excellent attention to detail is essential, along with the ability to understand processes both at a detailed data level and within the wider business context. An intuitive eye for identifying improvement opportunities through forums, meetings and broader networking will also be key to your success in this role.
