New Talent Business Partner

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

At Severn Trent, we’re passionate about investing in people and building the skills we need for the future. Our new talent programmes play a vital role in helping us serve our communities, protect the environment, and create meaningful early careers opportunities for the next generation.

We’re looking for a New Talent Business Partner to join our growing Resourcing – New Talent team. Reporting to the New Talent Lead, you’ll work closely with our Capital Design & Delivery and Chief Engineering teams, designing and delivering development programmes that help people thrive - while supporting our inclusion strategy and wider societal commitments.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who cares deeply about developing others, enjoys working collaboratively, and wants to make a real, lasting impact.

What you’ll be doing

In this varied and people‑focused role, you’ll:

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior leaders, HR Business Partners, Reward teams and the wider business to understand workforce challenges, skills gaps and future needs.
  • Co‑design and deliver a range of development programmes, including apprenticeships, graduate, undergraduate and employability initiatives, aligned to our strategic skills and inclusion priorities.
  • Support outreach activity, attraction events and assessment centres to help us build a diverse and inclusive talent pipeline.
  • Lead workforce planning conversations to shape future new‑talent demand and identify where early careers programmes are the right solution.
  • Work closely with line managers to support learner experience, performance and progression, using feedback and insight to continuously improve our programmes.
  • Act as a safeguarding point of contact, ensuring the safety, wellbeing and positive experience of all individuals on programme.
  • Develop and support a strong network of mentors to guide new talent through their learning journey and into meaningful roles.
  • Coordinate off‑scheme placements, ensuring people move into rewarding positions that support our long‑term skills plan.
  • Manage relationships with training providers to ensure high‑quality, value‑for‑money learning solutions.
  • Plan and host key programme milestones, from pre‑joiner and induction events through to celebrations and social activity.
  • Use workforce and programme data to share insights, measure impact, and drive continuous improvement.

HOW WE WORK

You'll be based at our Severn Trent Centre in Coventry. While the role is currently full time (37 hours), we’re very open to conversations about flexible hours for the right candidate, ideally 30 to 37 hours per week. Due to business needs this role is mainly onsite, and does not offer hybrid working.

You'll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why, we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. So, you'll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported, when you need it.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re open to different backgrounds, but you’ll likely bring:

  • Experience in a business partnering or stakeholder‑focused role, with a track record of building strong relationships.
  • A genuine passion for developing people and shaping future talent.
  • Creativity and curiosity in how you design and deliver learning experiences.
  • Confidence engaging with a wide range of audiences, from trainees to senior leaders.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • A supportive, empathetic and inclusive approach, with the confidence to influence and challenge constructively.

Experience of apprenticeships, development programmes or managing external providers is helpful, but not essential - we’re more interested in your mindset, capability and enthusiasm.

Additional information

  • The role requires some flexibility to support events and safeguarding responsibilities outside normal working hours (this is infrequent).
  • Occasional travel will be required.
  • You’ll need to complete relevant compliance checks to support safeguarding responsibilities.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
