EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In your new role the objective is to provide water and wastewater network modelling expertise to assess hydraulic risks, develop effective and efficient solution options, and deliver network feasibility studies. It also involves establishing consultant frameworks for network assessments and hydraulic modelling, ensuring robust commercial arrangements.
A key responsibility is programme management, which includes optimising project planning and collaborating with suppliers and customers to meet time and quality expectations. Additionally, the role focuses on driving and supporting hydraulic modelling skills development across STS, fostering technical knowledge and enhancing overall business competence.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
- Ensure sufficient resources for water and wastewater network feasibility and modelling, initially through the creation of a Consultant Framework.
- Deliver studies and reports within commercially agreed timescales.
- assess modelling needs for new developments or changes in water and wastewater demands, including initiating/reviewing CCTV surveys, field pressure testing, flow and pressure data analysis, and capacity constraint reviews.
- Build, calibrate, and verify hydraulic models for water and wastewater networks using appropriate software.
- Interpret field data and simulation results to produce technical reports, presentations, and actionable recommendations.
- Propose modelling scenarios that achieve least-cost solution options while meeting design standards and performance requirements.
- Assist in planning and designing water and wastewater infrastructure such as sewers, water mains, pumping/booster stations, and storage facilities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MOD), developers, and STS customers.
- Drive innovation by exploiting new techniques, software, and AI to reduce costs, enhance competitiveness, and improve risk evaluation and solution development.
- Provide training and mentorship to STS resources to build in-house capability and reduce reliance on consultant support.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have knowledge and experience in water and wastewater hydraulic modelling, with the ability to apply these concepts to construct accurate models and produce feasibility reports that meet customer requirements. You should be proficient in using simulations, statistical methods, and numerical analytical techniques to assess risks and develop effective solutions.
The role also demands strong problem-solving skills to formulate complex solutions that satisfy a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will need a solid understanding of the commercial tendering process, including the ability to specify work requirements and manage contracts effectively.
