Severn Trent is a FTSE 100 company and one of the only ones outside London to have an all-encompassing Health and Safety department. Our Health and Safety Graduate Programme offers perfect blend of personal and professional development, exposing you to the core of our business. The = programme consists of placements across our Health, Safety and wellbeing departments, giving you a well-rounded skillset where you’ll get to work on real life challenges and projects that impact our core business functions.
Through working in Health and Safety, you will gain great oversight of how we ensure that every Line Manager at Severn Trent is aware of our Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Standards. The programme will enable you to develop your skills. The aim of the programme is to develop your ability to:
- Support operations
- Manage risk and compliance
- Support business to do risk assessments
- Develop systems of work
- Drive improvements

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?
You will be based at Severn Trent Headquarters in Coventry, the heart of our patch. The programme requires you to complete placements throughout your time in the role, gaining exposure in different areas of the department so that you are equipped with the right skills to build your career here at Severn Trent.
In this exciting programme, you will have the chance to discuss your development and career ambitions in your 1-1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study buddy, the cohort leader, and the New Talent Team.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
You will expand your ability of;
- Keep track of the Standards Programme and any changes that occur to bring the relevant Standards forward
- Collective sign off of Standards, Toolbox Talks and associated documents
- Provide feedback and update the action log with next steps
- Prepare for the Standard final proof read
- Review changes to the Standard following a major incident

- A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment.
- Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Our New Talent Team will guide you and support you every step of the way. Furthermore, your line manager, mentor and graduate buddy will be there to help you in making sure you reach your full potential here at Severn Trent.
Location: STC
Programme Duration: 18-27 months (subject to change)
Starting Salary: £31,500
Entry Criteria: Health and Safety, Chemical Engineering or Process Safety or other Construction / Engineering degrees are desirable
Driving Requirements: You must have a full UK driving licence along with access to your own vehicle upon starting the role.
