Our Digital and Data Graduate Programme within Data Science & Analytics offers the perfect blend of personal and professional development. Within this programme you will have structured rotations through different technical disciplines such as Data Analytics, Data Engineering and Data Science whilst delivering tangible insights for some of the business’ most important data challenges.
In a typical day you could be developing complex predictive machine learning models, presenting business critical analytics to leadership through data visualisations or even harnessing powerful AI tools to innovate our business processes. Working alongside our Innovation colleagues, you will be working on high impact analytics projects using real-world data from our operational technologies.
A critical and curious mindset, along with analytical and numerical skills are key for this role. You'll need to be an excellent communicator to be able to translate complex and technical data into meaningful insights for important decision making. You will be communicating with stakeholders on multiple levels, and assessing and prioritising work based upon business value. Furthermore, you will form close relationships with the wider Asset Intelligence Teams to improve our data strategy to enhance the availability, quality, and usability of our data.

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?
You will be based at Severn Trent Headquarters in Coventry, the heart of our patch. The programme requires you to complete 3 placements throughout your time in the role, gaining exposure in different areas of the department so that you are equipped with the right skills to build your career here at Severn Trent.
Placement 1 – Working as a Data Engineer you will be working to transform prototype solutions built by the data scientists into robust ML pipelines that serve a production environment. You will learn about the myriad of data sources available to the Data Science team, ingesting, transforming and testing the data to enable the delivery of key, innovative data science initiatives. As part of the role, you will deploy MLOps best practices, including the monitoring of model performance over time.
Placement 2 – As a Data Analyst, your strong scientific and analytical background will be put to good use working on fresh water and wastewater projects. You will build on the knowledge gained from the first placement, in databases and sources available to perform analysis of the data generating valuable business insights. You will develop analytics solutions to some of the most critical and exciting areas facing Severn Trent today.
Placement 3 – As a Data Scientist, you will apply advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques to solve the business’ most challenging issues, extracting actionable insights that will make a real difference to the operations of Severn Trent. Building on prior experience in Data Engineering and Data Analysis, this placement will involve developing predictive models and supporting innovation that drives operational efficiency and resilience.
In this exciting programme, you will have the chance to discuss your development and career ambitions in your 1-1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study buddy, the cohort leader, and the New Talent Team.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Our New Talent Team will guide you and support you every step of the way. Furthermore, your line manager, mentor and graduate buddy will be there to help you in making sure you reach your full potential here at Severn Trent.
Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ
Programme Duration: 27 months
Starting Salary: £31,500
Entry Criteria: A STEM degree background is preferred
Driving Requirements: There are no driving requirements.
