Fleet Programme Manager

Here at Severn Trent our Fleet Programme Managers role is key to how all of our business moves.
You will be responsible for leading and delivering the Severn Trent and HD fleet replacement and growth programmes, valued at around £68m for FY26. This includes developing high‑quality business cases for capital funding and ensuring all programmes are delivered on time, to the required standard and within budget, without impacting operational performance. The role also ensures internal customers receive exceptional support when engaging with the Fleet Programme Team.
In addition, the position provides strong leadership to the Fleet Programme Team, oversees external third‑party partners to ensure outstanding service, and offers clear guidance and visibility to customers and stakeholders. The role also deputises for the Head of Fleet as the fleet subject‑matter expert when required.
Key Accountabilities within the role include:-
- Responsible for bottom-up build and top down management of the CAPEX budgets. Ensuring spend is in line with forecasts, reporting on progress and identifying risks
- Responsible for leading a team to ensure our customer’s needs are met and their experience in dealing with the team and their delivery is seamless
- Manage our external service providers to ensure delivery of our required KPI’s and service levels
- Making sure we are in accordance with all our company and legislative requirements, to include the upkeep of any documentation
- Ensure that the Fleet Programme Team supply the required number of vehicles to the required standards on time every time.
- Agree, implement, and monitor targets on vehicle renewals and communicate effectively to both internal and external stakeholders
- Help solve technical issues, manage suppliers and vehicle manufacturers including bid support and tender renewal programmes in conjunction with Commercial team
- Motivate and develop the team to ensure that targets and standards are consistently met and exceeded where possible.
- Proactively manage and enhance welfare and safety standards
- Responsible for shaping the future direction of the Fleet department at depot and company level
- Adopting a continuous improvement process to enhance future services and increase customer satisfaction
- Ensuring suppliers operate to the company’s standards and standards of service
- Ensure workloads, quality of work and performance are being managed to enable Fleet Services to deliver against regulatory, customer and company targets
- Investigate any issues / complaints or discrepancies while engaging with other departments to ensure resolution in a timely manner
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
In order to be successful in this role, you will need a strong understanding of the Fleet sector, alongside solid knowledge of daily fleet processes, health and safety requirements, DVSA standards and effective people‑management practices. You should bring experience leading teams in a fast‑paced environment, managing contracts and stakeholders, and communicating confidently with both suppliers and colleagues.
Strong IT skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage budgets are essential, as well as a commitment to delivering high levels of customer service and handling escalations professionally. Success in this role also requires a drive to achieve objectives, the ability to identify and resolve process issues, and a good understanding of the cost impacts of failure to ensure continuous improvement and a better customer experience.
