In our Technology department we’re seeking an Enterprise Architect to work with work with our Head of Technology Business Planning, Strategy and Architecture to develop Severn Trent’s target architecture, analysing our business strategies, and ensuring that the future Technology Strategy enables these. 

 

As our newest Enterprise Architect in the team, you’ll play a pivotal role in translating business strategy into enterprise-wide technology direction, ensuring alignment through structured architecture services and governance.  

 

As an Enterprise Architect, you will be responsible for defining and maintaining the enterprise architecture framework, ensuring alignment between business strategy and technology delivery. You will work across multiple domains, engaging with senior stakeholders to influence decision-making and drive architectural governance, innovation, and transformation.

Key Responsibilities 

 

You will contribute to and lead across our six core Enterprise Architecture services, including future state planning, vendor insight, enterprise capability alignment, strategic business planning, early-stage solutioning, and governance. 

 

  • Lead the development and evolution of enterprise architecture standards, principles, and roadmaps alongside other Enterprise Architects.  You’ll produce strategic artefacts including technology roadmaps, investment cases, and executive papers that inform and influence decision-making. 

  • Provide strategic guidance on emerging technologies and their potential impact on the organisation.  You’ll provide insight into industry trends and vendor landscapes, helping the organisation navigate digital threats and opportunities. 

  • You’ll work closely with business leaders and strategy teams to shape portfolio-level strategies and investment decisions, ensuring technology enables long-term business goals. 

  • Govern architectural practices across programmes and projects, ensuring consistency and compliance.  You’ll participate in and help lead governance forums such as the Design Authority and Technical Advisory Group, ensuring architectural decisions align with strategic principles. 

  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the architecture function.  Mentor and support other architects across the practice, contributing to capability development. 

  • Solutioning early-stage requests to ensure items are adequately described to support promotion.  You’ll support early-stage demand shaping by providing high-level architectural input, assessing impact, and recommending next steps to guide solution development. 

  • Provide expert technical leadership and guidance to major change programmes, ensuring architectural alignment, supporting managing technical risks, and facilitating the successful delivery of integrated solutions. 

  • Support procurement activities to describe and assess solutions.   

  • Team leadership of a small number of our Architects. 

 

Essential Competencies: 

  • Stakeholder Management & Influencing: Proven ability to engage and influence at executive level. 

  • Complexity Management: Skilled in navigating and simplifying complex systems and organisational structures. 

  • Enterprise Architecture: Mastery in enterprise-level architecture design and governance. 

  • Emerging Technology Monitoring: Strong awareness of technology trends and their strategic implications. 

  • Architecture Methods: Deep understanding of architectural frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman). 

  • Corporate Governance & Innovation: Experience in aligning architecture with corporate governance and fostering innovation. 

  • Broad knowledge: across technical, solution, data, security, and integration architecture domains. 

  • Strong consultancy and communication skills. 

 

Highly Desirable: 

  • Experience with procurement processes, compliance reviews, and lifecycle management. 

  • Familiarity with business case development and financial planning.
