We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Assurance Lead, this role will lead a team of Subject Matter Experts across a range of engineering disciplines, acting as the ‘go‑to’ function for all discipline-related queries across the wider supply chain and the entire capital programme.
With responsibility for 6–9 direct reports, a wider team of approximately 30-70 people, and additional framework services provided by consultants and contractors, you will build, develop and nurture a highly engaged, high‑performing team. You will develop and manage a strategic resource and capability plan to ensure that critical skills, experience and competence are effectively recruited, developed and retained to meet both current and future needs.

This role will be based at one of our Design hubs at Derby or Coventry.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Reporting directly into the Head of Design, we are seeking a dedicated individual to lead a highly engaged performing team. You will take personal responsibility for ensuring that both we and our external delivery partners produce innovative, high‑quality and efficient designs across the Capital Delivery works programme.
The ideal candidate will ensure that designs are safe, robust, compliant and fit for purpose, while continuously driving improvements in quality, efficiency and value throughout the design process.
- Working collaboratively on a day‑to‑day basis with colleagues across the Design and Delivery function, as well as the wider Severn Trent Commercial, Financial, Operations and Engineering teams.
- Ensuring and assuring that Design teams appropriately discharge the role of Principal Designer for STW in accordance with CDM Regulations, where required across projects.
- Taking ownership of a programme of continual review of STW Standards, ensuring they reflect industry best practice, embrace innovation, and leverage the broader experience, technologies.
- Providing internal and external support in relation to STW Standards, acting as the key point of liaison and interface, and ensuring sufficient Subject Matter Expertise is maintained within the team, alongside regular visibility of changes to standards.
- Ensuring that learnings from design and health and safety reviews are captured and evaluated, driving continuous updates to standards, frameworks and innovation initiatives.

- Experience in leading and developing multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Strong risk management experience in engineering design solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder and client relationship management skills.

- A proven ability of delivering strong financial and operational success
- Experience of supply chain management with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, cost and time.
