Electrical Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer

At Severn Trent, our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials—and we’re passionate about making a difference. Not just because we should, but because we care.

As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious five-year investment programme yet—nearly £13bn, with £6bn dedicated to capital projects—we’re embracing innovation like never before. Our new Plug and Play approach is transforming how we deliver infrastructure: modular, scalable, and smart.

Our new Plug and Play approach will be a collection of common parts that can be connected in different ways and work together (like electrical panels and dosing rigs). They can be mixed and matched to create a whole range of different products.

We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer or a Senior Design Engineer to join our Plug and Play team and help shape the future of water and wastewater infrastructure.

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

As an Electrical Engineer within the Plug and Play team, you’ll develop innovative electrical systems and solutions from concept through to detailed design. You’ll work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to create standardised, modular systems that are safe, efficient, and future-ready.

  • Driving the electrical design process, including specifications, optioneering, and detailed design.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into robust solutions.
  • Supporting early-stage commissioning planning and ensuring designs meet regulatory and operational standards.
  • Continuously improving standard designs based on feedback, risk assessments, and performance data.
  • Ensuring seamless integration between product design, framework suppliers and site implementation teams.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We are looking for a design-focused electrical engineer with a passion for infrastructure and innovation. You’ll bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and/or a minimum of 5 years proven experience in electrical design.
  • Familiarity with CAD, and digital electrical design tools.
  • Understanding of H&S, and risk management in engineering design.
  • An innovative and collaborative mindset with the ability to influence stakeholders to drive practical, effective solutions.
  • Flexibility to travel between sites throughout the UK on an Ad-hoc basis as projects demand.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live
