Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to civil and structural design solutions from feasibility, through to outline design, detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Review, challenge and contribute to the validation of civil and structural design produced by external consultants, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, specifications and project requirements.
  • Undertake internal structural checks and calculations as required to support option selection, design assurance and independent verification of consultant outputs.
  • Identify, assess and manage civil and structural risks throughout the design process, including health & safety, environmental, constructability and operational considerations.
  • Ensure Health and Safety are built into the lifecycle of the design and understand activities associated with Severn Tent’s role as Principal Designer - CDM regulations.
  • Support the Project Manager in their obligation to provide Design Acceptance and, where responsible for detailed design, be adept in responding to site queries and resolving technical issues with minimal delay.
  • Work with a range of key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of solutions that meet the needs of the Customer, Key Stakeholders, and the regulatory requirements of OFWAT and the Environment Agency.
  • Provide technical support to the Water Treatment Design Team and play a key role in developing the technical capability of team members through coaching and mentoring.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

You’ll be degree qualified in a civil or structural engineering discipline and showing your professional commitment as a member of one of the engineering Institutions (ICE / IStructE or equivalent) or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on.

You’ll have a solid understanding of civil and structural engineering principles, and experience contributing to the design of civil/structural elements (e.g. foundations, concrete structures, steelwork, tanks, slabs or similar infrastructure assets) ideally in the Water Industry. You’ll be familiar with CAD and digital tools, structural analysis and design software and office tools.

You’ll have a good knowledge of relevant UK design standards and their practical application, and practice of managing a product life cycle.

You’ll have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward-thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment.

A full UK driving licence will be required.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.
