LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT 

Our Asset Strategy team has an exciting opportunity for you to join as an Asset Strategy Lead.

You’ll ensure that investment across all our water and wastewater systems is optimised across of the competing demands and that the costs to customers are spread fairly across generations. The main responsibility is for ensuring those long-term decisions are robustly represented in our five-yearly price review submissions.  

To achieve this, it will involve leading the continuous improvement of our long-term decision-making support tools, managing a portfolio of projects all aimed at improving long term planning and ensuring consistency across all the statutory planning frameworks (such as Water Resource Management Plans (WRMP) and Drainage and wastewater management plans (DWMP).

You’ll seek and respond to a broad range of internal and external stakeholder views to ensure that our long-term planning tools and approaches comply with all guidance and best practice and create a culture of continuous improvement. You’ll also inspire the direct and in-direct team to be creative, technically excellent and considerate of the system wide issues.

 

Some of the other key accountabilities:

Strategic planning frameworks:

Reviewing and supporting the development of strategic planning documents including WRMP, DWMP and national environment programme (WINEP) to ensure consistency and alignment of the planning assumptions and decision making.

Providing guidance and support to teams responsible for converting long term plans into investment cases as part of the five-yearly price review process.

Developing our investment optimisation tools and developing adaptive plans to ensure we are robustly stress testing our investment options. Continuously improving the approach in line with any updated guidance from regulators on the Long-term Delivery Strategy (LTDS).

Create a review process which enables engagement by key internal and external stakeholders including EA, customers and relevant regional working groups.

 

Price review development:

Responsibility for coordinating the development of business cases across the water and wastewater system.

To support other Asset Strategy Leads responsible for each asset class.

Ensure stakeholder and customer views are sought and considered when identifying the best value activities and pace of action.

 

Technical expertise:

Developing cross cutting asset strategies (for example on climate change adaptation, risk management and planning for regional growth)

Responding to consultations and influencing policy direction on future legislation and wider policy such as on growth and planning policy.

 

Overall:

Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure strategic alignment and cohesive delivery across functions. This includes integrating efforts and maintaining consistent communication to support shared goals.

Lead engagement initiatives and manage relationships with key regulators and stakeholders, fostering trust and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and expectations.

Develop expertise in assessing natural capital benefits and broader environmental and societal impacts, contributing to more informed decision-making and sustainable outcomes.

Support team growth by inspiring and nurturing talent, creating an environment that encourages development, innovation, and high performance.

Ensure the strategic planning framework is aligned with other critical strategies, including net zero, sustainability, climate change adaptation, and population growth, to deliver a unified and forward-looking approach.

 

You can either be based out of our office Head Office in Coventry. You’ll work within our Asset Strategy Team. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week, WFH flexibility available and travel to other sites will be required at times so you’ll need to hold a full U.K driving licence.

As travel is required, you’ll also have to hold a full U.K driving licence.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

To be successful, it’s expected you’ll have detailed knowledge and experience of water and wastewater planning and UK legislation.

You’ll also have the ability to review and challenge technical documents, work in a world of ambiguity, often to flexible and changing deadlines and simplify complex approaches for a range of audiences.

Additionally, you’ll have experience of building effective working relationships with a diverse range of people from senior management to front line and able to successfully deliver on multiple commitments under pressure, understanding and applying a relevant level of quality to each piece of work.
