ABAP Software Engineer

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Are you ready to shape the future of SAP development at Severn Trent? We’re on the lookout for an ABAP Software Engineer to join our dynamic Shared Services team. This team underpins the technical foundations of our SAP landscape and plays a crucial role in major transformation programmes, including our migration from SAP ECC to S/4HANA and the transition to the new Kraken customer platform. It’s a pivotal moment to join us and make a real impact.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining SAP applications using the ABAP programming language, creating a wide range of RICEF objects such as reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows. Your work will include designing and building ALV reports, Smart Forms, SAP Script, Adobe Forms, and Module Pool programs, as well as working with data dictionary objects like tables, views, and structures. You will also develop and support various system interfaces, including IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, and Proxies.

In addition, you will collaborate closely with SAP functional consultants to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions. You will implement system enhancements using user exits, BADIs, and the enhancement framework, ensuring flexibility and improved system performance. Your role will also involve supporting testing phases, deployment activities, and providing post–go‑live assistance to ensure smooth system operation.

If you’re passionate about building high‑quality SAP solutions, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to be part of a team driving digital transformation across the business, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be based at our Severn Trent Centre Head Office in Coventry, working within the Shared Services team of around a dozen people all focused on delivering great outcomes and moving in the same direction. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

HOW WE WORK

You'll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in‑person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility that working from home can bring. You’ll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported when you need it.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re on the lookout for someone who loves working as part of a team and enjoys bouncing ideas around to solve real business challenges. If you're someone who communicates clearly—whether that’s writing things up or talking through a problem—and you’re comfortable working closely with client teams, you’ll fit right in.

You’ll need to be naturally curious and detail‑oriented, with strong planning and problem‑solving skills. We value people who take initiative, spot areas for improvement, and follow through to make things better.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience with object-oriented ABAP programming

We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
